Anyone catch the History Channels' story about the real Charlie Wilson and his exploits regarding the Afghans' war on Russia. Amazing how this guy got weapons to the mujahadin---and I thought it was all the CIAs idea ! Quite a characture too !!

This dude without getting the OK from ANYONE took a Texan belly dancer to Cairo to seduce the Egytian defense minister into selling russian made weapons so the afghans could fight the Russians ! What a character !! :laugh2:
Many give him credit for masterminding the defeat of the Russian invasion--What a story!

LMAO---wasn't that crazy? Anyone who is concerned about collateral damage done by the US needs to hear what the Russians did to the Afghans.

In the eyes of liberals, Russians/Socialists good. Americans, bad. They'll never comment on what the Ruskies did.

Catch it if you can---they interview the real Charlie Wilson several times. A crazy outlaw if there ever was one but when his neighbor killed his dog, that was the final straw ! :laugh2:

One of the best TV shows I've seen in a long time. It was almost like watching a fictional movie. You had to keep telling yourself that this guy was for real. Sadly, because of our new PC religion, real-life characters like Charlie Wilson are a thing of the past--a dead breed.

As incredible as anything in the pages of Tom Clancy or John le Carré, this is a gripping story of international intrigue, booze, drugs, sex, high society and arms deals. It is the true story of Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's and CIA operative Gust Avrakotos's covert dealings in Afghanistan, and how they armed the Afghan Mujahideen in what became the CIA's largest and most successful campaign in history. Their goal was to turn Afghanistan into the Soviet Union's Vietnam. The effort would blow back to haunt America into the next century.

False---the CIA's ORIGINAL intent was for it to be Russia's Viet Nam. Charlie Wilson discovered this and turned it into an embarassing defeat for the Russians. It became a nightmare because the US did NOT continue it's influence in the region and allowed a power vacuum. Where is you link from, BTW ?
I saw the movie in the theater and while it's no blockbuster I found it enlightening, surprisingly funny, and a graghic reason for us not to abandon Iraq.
