So what individual VIDEO games do you consider to be the ultimate games you've ever played? Individual games rather than a whole series because some are part of an overall series that may or may not have had better or worse installments within it.

Here's my top 5 all Time.

1. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
2. Half-Life 2 (PC)
3. Resident Evil 4 (GC or PS2)
4. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
5. Civilization 4 (PC)

I haven't played video games in a long time, but I'd have to say I spent the most time and had the most fun playing:

Zelda Link to the Past: SNES
Mario kart 64
Bond: Goldeneye N64
Ratchet Clank PS2
Zelda Ocarina of Time N64

I know that when they come out with a Wii EA tennis game it's gonna be the bomb. I may have to start playing video games again.

Why didn't you like FF7? I thought it was great. Civilization one is a very old game, so I doubt you'll be able to find an unopened copy. It would be a collectors piece by now.

The Wii plays all Gamecube games, you can also download all the classic games (SNES, or N64). It was designed to be fully retro compatable with the 64 hardware. Hell you can even use your old controler as well as your memory cards. I do like the X-box though it does take a little getting used to the different controlers....

I'm playing Half-Life 2 on XBOX right now, it's outstanding, but from what I hear, the ending intentionally sets up the two mini-episodes that are only out for the 360!

So what individual VIDEO games do you consider to be the ultimate games you've ever played? Individual games rather than a whole series because some are part of an overall series that may or may not have had better or worse installments within it.

1. Starcraft (PC) - far and away one of the best 2.5D games of all time. Not only was gameplay good, but it included a good level editor and fantastic internet-based multiplayer gaming.

2. Halo (XBox) - THE reason to buy the original Xbox when it debuted, and the reason for many, MANY LAN parties not of the PC variety.

3. World of Warcraft (PC) - excellent combination of arcade game, role-playing game, and internet community. I would put Everquest in front of it as the genre grandfather, but I never ventured into Ever-crack territory.

4. Rainbow Six 3 (XBox) - excellent team-play requiring tactics and communication. I was hooked in less than two hours of network play. To this day, I get video games that are internet-enabled, and rarely (if ever) play the single-player mode.

5. Guitar Hero III (Xbox 360) - This is a great party game which appeals to a HUGE number of people. It's good enough that I'm going back to look at the earlier titles - something I never do.

Oh, but you're forgetting the PC. Both episodes are out for the PC, and you can get them both (along with HL2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2) as part of "The Orange Box," which is worth twice what they charge for it.

Ahh. I never play computer games, so I didn't know it was out for that. I hear Portal's pretty good.

Portal's awesome, and it's also a technical miracle if you know anything about the complexities of 3D game programming. However, I'll skip the technical stuff. Whenever I talk about it, people get irritated and bored.

In Portal, you are a test subject for Aperture Science being given various tasks to complete using their new portal technology. Unlike portals in games like Quake or Unreal Tournament, you are not simply treated to a buffer time disguised as a flash only to be transported, upright and stationary, to wherever you are going. Instead, the portals are treated much like doors. If you angle the portals correctly, you can see yourself through them (in fact, the first few portals you use are made by the computer to get you used to the idea, and you can see yourself through the very first one, as it helps you grasp the concept). When you step through a portal, it's just like using a door...except you're now a great distance away and probably facing a different direction. The transition is smooth, with no flash or anything. You just walk straight through and emerge on the other side at whatever orientation and velocity you entered the portal at (though if, for example, the exit is on the ceiling, the new direction of gravity will affect you immediately). Eventually, you are given a portal gun which can fire first one, then both colors of portal (no one color is the 'entrance' or 'exit,' but there can only be one portal of each color, blue and orange, at a time, so making a new one of the same color erases the old one).

Now, while this may be cool enough at face value, it gets better. Now, it may be cool enough making yourself a quick way across a chasm or through a tiny space, there are such better uses for it. If you fall into a portal, you come out the other side very quickly, allowing you to launch yourself up great heights or across wide spaces. You can also place portals in the path of dangerous objects to redirect them somewhere safe or useful. The use of all of these mechanics is required throughout the 'story mode' as well as the challenge modes afterward. The game is an absolute blast, and I'd recommend it for anyone (though the latter half of the game may be scary for young children, who might have trouble solving the puzzles, anyway, especially the one where the game flat out says to you 'we regret to inform you that this next test...is impossible').

Yeah, I know I just bumped a really old thread, but I've been out of town!

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

1) Civilization II
2) World of Warcraft
3) Civilization IV
4) Starcraft
5) Zelda

I ranked Civ II tops because it is still a great game, and if you don't understand Blitzkrieg, you're done baby! Civ 4 is good, but there is unfair political changes that occur with unrealistic wars from AI that would never happen when you are light years ahead on technology and they don't have a prayer. The realistic equivalent of Kenya invading the USA - silly shit like that didn't happen like that in Civ II, but occurs in Civ 4. The result was the AI sacrificed one nation to bog you down so the others gained the advantage.

Still, I really love the bluster of the politics and above all the all-important strategy of the blitzkreig. When it's time to go to war, you go all-out and get the job done fast. If you don't, there's domestic problems, of course, but moreso on the front lines - take that city NOW, soldier! Screw around and wait for backup and you can lose the advantage quickly. Sometimes you just had to go up against bad odds and hope for the best and a whole campaign hinged on you taking a key city.

WoW took up a great deal of time on my part. I met some great people and retain many friendships from that experience, but ultimately I pulled the plug on that game because it was SO DAMN ADDICTING! I co-led the largest guild on the server, managing 40 people all doing specific jobs on a boss fight with 30 other people standing outside waiting for a chance to get in on the fight and if one person screwed up, everyone died. It was rewarding, challenging and fun. I had 3 characters that I could have sold for easily $2500, but they're sitting there now idle. I just don't have time for it anymore, and since I quit I understand that WoW is experiencing a mass exodus. Blizzard made hundreds of millions on that game.

Starcraft was good, it was very challenging.

Zelda fired up my imagination as a youngster and was a ton of fun, therefore takes up the 5th spot in my list.

YamiB.

-Guilty Gear X2
-Final Fantasy VIII
-Lunar II
-Warcraft III
-Disgaea

I'd say those would have to be my top five, not really in any paticular order. Only one I'm not sure about is if I might want to change the RTS spot of Warcraft III to Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots.
