Happy New Year everyone. Tonight is not the night to drink and drive!

Especially not in IL or IN:

421 am CST Mon Dec 31 2007

... Accumulating snow expected this afternoon and evening...

... Snow Advisory in effect from noon CST /1 PM EST/ today to 6 am
CST /7 am EST/ Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Snow
Advisory... which is in effect from noon CST /1 PM EST/ today to
6 am CST /7 am EST/ Tuesday.

A low pressure system developing over the Central Plains will
bring snow to the region today. Around 4 inches of snow is
expected over locations along and south of the Interstate 80
corridor. Locations between Interstate 80 and Interstate 88 will
see around 1 to 3 inches of total snowfall and locations further
north should only see light amounts... perhaps up to 1 inch. Snow
should begin by around noon... particularly over central Illinois
and spread to the north and east this afternoon. Snow is expected
to continue into the evening hours... before tapering off to light
snow showers by around midnight. As the low pressure system moves
off to the east... winds will shift northwesterly and become strong
and gusty overnight. Blowing snow is likely after midnight and
through the early morning hours.

A Snow Advisory means that periods of snow will cause primarily
travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and
limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.

Abbey that's beautiful, though there is nothing about 2007 that I wish to remember joyfully. It was an awful year for me.

In a safer Baghdad, Iraqis party for 2008
Mon Dec 31, 2007 4:23pm EST

By Peter Graff

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - On New Year's Eve Ridaa al-Azzawi squeezed into his pointy snakeskin boots, his tight black sweater and his snazzy corduroy flared jeans, hustled down to a Baghdad hotel ballroom and partied for peace.

2008 arrived in a less-violent Baghdad, and residents said it was the first real party they had seen in years.

At the stroke of midnight, exuberant locals fired into the air with automatic rifles, sending red tracer fire streaking over the city, as fireworks lit up the sky.

While the city is still far from peaceful and many of the festive gatherings had a tentative feel, many said it was a happier occasion than they could have dared to hope just a few months ago.

"The security has changed and it took us by surprise. We're very happy. Especially us young people," said al-Azzawi, a 22-year-old student taking a break from dancing to a traditional Iraqi band in the ballroom of the Palestine Hotel.

"I haven't seen a happy place like this in so long. I wanted to see if I could maybe meet a few girls!" he said. "I only hope the Iraqi people can enjoy more happy times like this."

Salah al-Lami, 27, the singer who performed at the Palestine ballroom and then for another New Year's Eve crowd at the Sheraton Hotel across the street, said it was the first time he had sung before a live audience in four years.

This past year has been difficult for a lot of us as well, Kathianne. And this New Year isn't off to a grand start. I received word this morning that a friend passed away last evening. I feel strange.

Thank you.
KW recently decided to go back to school and become a Minister of Music. Said he's waited 20 years to find out what God wanted him to do. What a shame.
