What and idiot, this concept is not rocket science. He is lucky he didn't get contempt of court. He took a 5$ which is nothing and make it a lot worse.

I am torn here.

I support freedom of speech.

I support civility and respect for the law.

If someone can persuade me to take a side here, I'm happy to listen.

Why are they looking at the "Memo" portion of the check anyway? That's supposed to be only for the person who writes the check.

I support freedom of speech as well. There is no compelling state interest in keeping someone from expressing their opinion on their own checks.

So it's okay to burn the American flag but not write what you want on your check? I DO hold most courts in contempt, and I'd have paid THAT fine. They'd pay Hell getting me to apologize.
