I was listening to something earlier that almost fits in with some of the things that have been discussed here.
On a very limited and underground level, liberal Dems and conservative Republicans are working together to derail the McCain candidacy.
The ConReps believe McCain is too liberal. They would rather go down with Romney (or perhaps a compromise candidate). Dems believe Romney would be easier to defeat in the General Election, and that his policies and platform would hurt other GOP candidates.
It's bizarre enough to make me believe it.
