Since I watch so many movies I decided to start a "blog" of sorts about each movie. Each entry has a photo of the official movie cover, a synopsis and I'm starting to add the movie trailer to each entry. I'm also giving out a rating for each one. The ratings are mostly above average thus far, but that's because I've only been watching recommended movies that I know I'll like!

I'm looking for feedback on the layout of the site in general, and the entries, and what you guys think I can do to improve the site. If you were visiting a movie site, what features would you like to see?

Just curious on where I should go from here!

Do you like the header image I made?

I think the site looks very good. Though I don't watch many movies.
I forwarded the link to my sister, who works for a movie studio and sees a lot of movies. She is currently at the South By Southwest Film Festival, so I might not hear back from her until later.

I think the site looks great, especially the header. Just curious, but how'd you pick which movies you put up top, or was it just random?

Incidentally, if you need people for this one, I think I'd be able to help you out better than I was for the DP blog. Looks great so far, though I think you should be a little more personal in your reviews, like for example, I can guess what your favorite part of Into the Blue was, you should expand on that. :D

Dan can have the artsy fartsy and foreign section. :)

One thing I like to see on movie sites is reviews by both the public and the Pros.

Just a nice mix for me. The age of the reviewer is also nice to know. Chances are I won't like what a 20 yr old likes.

Cool, thanks, would love to get some feedback from her!

Picked the movies randomly. I guess just a handful of recent movies that I saw and liked.

Not that any of my sites ever gain in popularity, but visitors are allowed to comment on the posts and add their 2 cents!

Please pass this note to your boardmeister:
I like the design and layout of your site, but it bears too much of a resemblance to IMDB. It needs something to make it more distinctive in appearance. There are tons of movie review blogs out there, and many of them are very similar to yours. I enjoyed your reviews, but "I Know Who Killed Me" stunk to high heaven. We didn't shower it with Razzies for no reason. Also, please list the name of the studio that released the movie. We need the publicity. :)
Love, Elise Chavez (Gab's big sis)

Tell her I went back and added who released each film to each entry! I'll be working on a few new ideas to make it a little different than most sites but my goal right now is to populate the site. Most are just a synopsis of the movie. Once I'm set I'll be doing only about one update per day, but lengthier and from a different perspective than most. I hope to attract user participation as well, and am going to setup a rating system for the users which will give an overall average in addition to my own rankings. I'm taking notes in the meantime of ideas I would like to implement.

I think you and Elise both thought so just because it was "Lindsay" in the movie. I honestly enjoyed it! It's a shame that a twit like her can give a movie a bad rep before most even see it. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think it deserves any honors for it's filming or acting, but there was much worse released last year than this one!

One thing you need to understand -- my sister is one of the world's leading authorities on bad movies. This has been her obsession since I was a small girl. She has VHS, Beta, Laserdiscs, DVDs, HDs and Blu-Rays filled with any and every bad movie imaginable.
When Elise was going through USC Film School, she got to interview some of the directors, makers and participants. She interviewed porn stars and directors. She directed a couple of her own bad movies (rejected from some of the industry's most prestigious film festivals!).
She is a voting member of The Razzies.
So I will assure you that she studied every minute of "I Know Who Killed Me." One of her assertions is that the majority of people who attend Lindsay Lohan movies are hoping to see her naked. :lmao:

Jim, the site looks good. In fact I'll be looking for Cleaner very soon. Looks like I'm the only one working over there, adding comments where I can. Trying to drum up traffic.

My sister has obviously been reading Jim's site. When we were driving from San Francisco to Anaheim on Saturday, she wanted to know why Jim would give "The Return" such a high ranking. She thought it was garbage. Mostly from a production standpoint, though. She thought the dialogue and character development were poor and the film was poorly structured.

Thanks for the help! And definitely see Cleaner when you can. The reviews I read prior didn't do the movie justice. Once again, Samuel L. Jackson puts on a great performance. The story is unique and keeps your interest throughout.

Tell your sister to bite me! :coffee:

Seriously though, I really thought this was a good movie. I honestly didn't like Gellar when she was "Buffy" but have fallen in love with her since watching a few movies with her acting. Not only is she a hotty, but her acting is pretty damn good, IMO. This story is another unique one where she is having some odd dreams and visions and can't understand them. Childhood trauma has sent signals to her and it's a great mystery, and has some pretty scary moments. I thought I had it figured out a few times only to have the movie go in another direction shortly thereafter. It wasn't until the very closing moments that the entire picture comes together.

It's not like I have movie companies sending me films for review where I'm going to see lots of movies I hate. The majority of films I've been watching have come recommended from friends who have similar tastes as I do. My brother and "mrg666" have recommended some excellent films to me. I'd rather not have a site where the reviewed films are only the top 20 movies out but rather movies that are "different" from the mainstream and aren't spreading like wildfire. Trust me though, I'm still in the content building stage of the site, I have TONS of shit movies I plan on putting up there before long! LOL

What... ya gotta at least like it... Lindsay is in it... she's hot, the movie is worth watching. :D

Two thumbs up from PR.

I regularly visit the freepix site myself and leave comments. Thanks for putting "Sarah Brightman" on there Jim. Now how about Chesley Handler? Think she warrants a spot?

I looked up Chelsea Handler, and agree she looks awfully good! But there's not a whole lot out there about her and not a lot of photos. I'll see what I can get up there though!

Surprising you found her considering how bad I butchered her name...

Here's about the best pic I could find. You know she's got a late night talk show called Chelsea Lately...
