Obama Voted Against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

This is a bill that the US Senate passed 98-0. When Obama was an Illinois Senator he voted against it. The bill was drafted after a Chicago nurse blew the whistle on "Christ Hospital" for putting babies that were born alive after a failed abortion attempt into a soiled laundry room and left them there to eventually die.

The Bill: SB1662

Text of the Bill that Obama voted against (SB1662):

------------------------------------------
7 Sec. 1.36. Born-alive infant.
8 (a) In determining the meaning of any statute or of any
9 rule, regulation, or interpretation of the various
10 administrative agencies of this State, the words "person",
11 "human being", "child", and "individual" include every infant
12 member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any
13 stage of development.
14 (b) As used in this Section, the term "born alive", with
15 respect to a member of the species homo sapiens, means the
16 complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of that
17 member, at any stage of development, who after that expulsion
18 or extraction breathes or has a beating heart, pulsation of
19 the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary
20 muscles, regardless of whether the umbilical cord has been
21 cut and regardless of whether the expulsion or extraction
22 occurs as a result of natural or induced labor, cesarean
23 section, or induced abortion.
24 (c) A live child born as a result of an abortion shall
25 be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate
26 protection under the law.

Testimony from Jill Stanek:

------------------------------------------
... Up until recently, staff options were to hold the baby until death, or put the baby in our soiled utility if we got too busy or if the baby lingered too long. Indeed, it is not uncommon for one of these babies to live for an hour or two or even longer. Last year, of the 16 babies that Christ Hospital states were aborted, at least five were born alive. Four of those babies, two boys and two girls, lived between one and a half and 3 hours. At Christ Hospital, one aborted baby lived once for almost an entire 8-hour shift. At least two of the second-trimester babies who were aborted last year at Christ Hospital were healthy babies.

One night, a nursing co-worker was taking an aborted Down's Syndrome baby who was born alive to our soiled utility room because his parents did not want to hold him and she did not have the time to hold him. I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in the soiled utility room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived....

Common Obama Defenses For This:

First Obama Defense: But what about the health of the mother?

FACTS: The "Born Alive Infant Protection Act" protects babies completely removed from the mother.

Second Obama Defense: But the federal and Illinois versions are slightly different

FACTS: They both protect the life of a baby that is alive outside of the mother. Obama has chairperson of the Health & Human Services committee helped shoot down language that would have made the Illinois text match the federal text

Third Obama Defense: But this would lead to Roe v Wade being overturned!

FACTS: Roe v Wade was about fetuses (not born), this act protects babies (born).

Fourth Obama Defense: But this never happens anyway

FACTS: Wrong, it did happen --> http://judiciary.house.gov/Legacy/stan0720.htm
(http://judiciary.house.gov/Legacy/stan0720.htm)

Fifth Obama Defense: But the federal law superseded the state law

FACTS: SB1662 was voted on BEFORE the federal law was passed

Sixth Obama Defense: But this is considered murder so this legislation was unnecessary.

FACTS: Wrong, read: http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/judiciary/hju73696.000/hju73696_0.HTM
(http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/judiciary/hju73696.000/hju73696_0.HTM)
Very convincing arguments about why this legislation was necessary. It then passed the US Senate 98-0.

Seventh Obama Defense: But these babies would have died anyway

FACTS: First of all why should they have to suffer? Second of all, our nurse testified that she held a baby with a non-fatal condition for 45 minutes before it died due to suffocation from under developed lungs. http://judiciary.house.gov/Legacy/stan0720.htm
(http://judiciary.house.gov/Legacy/stan0720.htm)
Christ Hospital even admitted to aborting babies with non-fatal conditions like Down syndrome or spina bifida and under political pressure, decided to stop doing this.

This is exactly why Obama is a liberal sack of shit. Unbelievable that anybody would argue against this law. It just goes to show how much liberals care about keeping abortion a dark secret where the public doesn't know what is really happening at abortion clinics.

This sack of shit must be defeated in November.

Once again, Keyes nails Obama right on the head.

Abortion IS not going away....

This isn't about abortion. It's about killing babies that are born alive (infanticide).

they aren't killing them.......they are not helping them and thus they let nature take its course and they die.....

they aren't killing them.......they are not helping them and thus they let nature take its course and they die.....

Because they are suffocating due to under developed lungs. These babies could easily survive with medical attention (ie...a respirator).

Yes at least McCain is anti-abortion. Voting 3rd party may make you feel better but its only going to help B.O. get into office....

Here is the problem, McCain is running as a conservative solely to garner conservative votes but once in office you know he's gonna jump right into bed with congressional Demos, its what he's always done.

I want someone who is going to govern conservatively, i'm tired of broken promises and because he is anti-abortion(Roe v Wade isn't going to be overturned) isn't enough for me to vote for the man.

Now with that said I don't think McCain can beat either of the Demos so this might be a moot point.

I'm curious to know when McCain has ever "jumped ship" and sided with Dems on the issues I just brought up....

And, Roe v Wade can and will be overturned. It doesn't mean abortion will disappear, in fact it won't. It simply means that the people will actually have a say in making laws on the issue....

It's for the same reason that I care about people being murdered around America. It's the same reason I care about ending terrorism of innocent civilians. It's the same reason that I would love to see the troops home - even though I know that war is sometimes necessary. I care about human life in general.
