DETROIT - The billboard displays a phone number and only two English words: "Call Mona." The rest is in Arabic. But if you can read it, the Army wants you.

The sign, erected to help recruit translators from Detroit's large Middle Eastern population, urges Arabic speakers to consider joining the military.

"In the land of different opportunities," it says, "this is one you might not have heard before: job opportunities with the U.S. Army."

Five years after the invasion of Iraq, the Army says it is meeting or exceeding its goals for recruiting Arabic translators. But despite growing acceptance of the military among Arab immigrants, recruiters acknowledge that much of the immigrant community remains deeply suspicious of the Army.

Why dont they just hire them as contractors to travel with the military. lots of people are suspicious of the military not just arab speaking people its just that they need arab speakers so the recruitment strain is exasperated so they try to sensationalize "the arab communitys suspiciousness of the military" when in fact not to many people are rushing to join the military arab or otherwise.

Red tape and BS goes away when they truely need something, kinda like direct commission of physicians, you dont see MD's going through 9 week army basic with E-1's they go through a special 2 or 4 week physician intro to the military and then pin on O-3 or O-4

Yea these numbers arent fabricated or anything, I know for a fact that the army was not anywere close to meeting there actual needs in years, so all you do is say we only need this many and make that number equal to the number of people that actually joined. If recruiting is doing so well we would not be one corner away from a draft. Of course im 27 now so I am out of the first call up list (A list) and would be bumped to the B list and of course they are not going to draft during an election year so I will be 28 before any draft is implemented and well out of the A list.

Wow, great. One little problem though, you didn't address the issue of the thread, which is about ARABIC recruiting.

Could recruiting arabs possibly be because so many of them support the jihadists and don't want to fight against them. Kinda says something for the arab population in this country as to what side they are really on.
