Justice CAN be served. Just don't rely on the police to do it.

Good job.

Note that, if this had happened in Washington DC, the outcome would have been very different... because there, homeowners are not allowed to have handguns at all. And long guns must be kept unloaded, disassembled, locked etc... in other words, kept useless. These invaders would have had a free hand.

The good news in DC? The homeowner's next of kin would have been able to sue the invaders for violating the law forbidding them from carrying guns in the home. :bang3:

Men were breaking into victim's home

HICKORY, N.C. - Police say two suspects are dead after an attempted home invasion.

Catawba County sheriff’s deputies say two men dressed in black and carrying pistols forced their way into a home on 33rd Avenue in Hickory around 11:00 last night. According to a sheriff’s official, the homeowner was armed with his own gun, and shot the suspects. Both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Coy Reid with the sheriff’s office said both men were wearing masks and latex gloves.

At this time, no arrests have been made.

Well done on the part of the homeowner.

On a lighter note...

Hickory is on my list of places to move. Small town in a beautiful area. Overall, the crime rate is pretty low, or, at least it was...

The homeowner did well in a really stressful circumstance.

Little-Acorn, the statement about the police was ridiculous. Think of the police as advertising, you'd miss them if they weren't there :laugh2:

Little-Acorn, the statement about the police was ridiculous.

It's ridiculous... and true.

Most burglars, home invaders etc. are in, damage is done, and they're gone in minutes. Long before the police can show up to take a report. Whoever is going to get dead, is dead by the time they arrive.

Justice can be done, as it was in this case. But don't rely on the police to do it.

The lady in the article below, relied on police. She dialled 911. But for some reason the intruder didn't let her finish the call.

Don't rely on the police.

Woman shot to death while on phone with 911 dispatcher

WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) -- A woman was asking a 911 dispatcher for help when her pleas were interrupted by gunshots, then silence.

The woman told the dispatcher someone was trying to break into her home, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Dan Rosenberg said. "Deputies heard gunshots followed by silence and an open phone line," he said.

Deputies arrived at the Cameron Avenue mansion, 20 miles east of Los Angeles, a few minutes after Wednesday's 11:40 a.m. call.

The woman, a female Asian adult, had been shot several times. Paramedics announced her dead at the scene.

While police were investigating the shooting, a man arrived at the home asking about his wife.

When he heard that the woman had been shot and killed, he collapsed and started to cry, saying "No! She just called me. You lie."

The man was placed in a patrol car and taken to a local sheriff's station, West Covina police said.

No arrests had been made, deputies said Thursday morning.

Don't rely on the police. No of course not, you'd be stupid to solely rely on the police. But think what it would be like if the police weren't there. That was my point.

The 1923 Victorian Police strike occurred in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. On the eve of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in November 1923, half the police force in Melbourne went on strike[1] over the operation of a supervisory system using labour spies. Riots and looting followed as crowds poured forth from Flinders Street Station on the Friday and Saturday nights and made their way up Elizabeth and Swanston Streets, smashing shop windows, looting, and overturning trams.

The Boston Police Strike was a strike by the Boston police rank and file that began on September 9, 1919 after Police Commissioner Edwin Upton Curtis refused to allow the creation of a police union. The strike, which plunged Boston into civil chaos, heralded a dramatic shift in traditional labor relations and views on the part of the police, who were unhappy with stagnant wages and poor working conditions. Then-Governor Calvin Coolidge's intervention in the strike brought him national fame which, in turn, led to his nomination as Harding's running mate for Vice-President in the 1920 presidential election.

Actually, when you think about, this is proof that the crime rate will be dropping further. You think anyone else is going to try robbing that house?

You're right. The local criminal element will certainly think twice before entering a house in Hickory.
