NEW YORK — Maybe it was the umpteenth coke-dealing anthem or soft-porn music video. Perhaps it was the preening antics that some call reminiscent of Stepin Fetchit.

The turning point is hard to pinpoint. But after 30 years of growing popularity, rap music is now struggling with an alarming sales decline and growing criticism from within about the culture's negative effect on society.

Rap insider Chuck Creekmur, who runs the leading Web site Allhiphop.com, says he got a message from a friend recently "asking me to hook her up with some Red Hot Chili Peppers because she said she's through with rap. A lot of people are sick of rap ... the negativity is just over the top now."

Well Im surprised it was ever well liked to begin with. I had a friend who liked that stuff.. course that was when he was high alot. But since he has gotten clean he has broadened his musical tastes alot. Im really proud of him:D

What I've always failed to understand is the acceptance of (c)Rap by black women. There aren't too many songs that aren't demeaning of them (bitches, ho's, etc.)

rap is NOT music. And I hope it dies really fast so we don't have to suffer with it too much longer. If I turn on a movie and it starts out with rap I turn it off. I really dispise the shit.

I love how they try to steer away from "rap," as in "rap sheet," and toward "hip hop," as if it were just happy hopping bunny rabbits instead of black criminals with recording contracts.

rap is NOT music. And I hope it dies really fast so we don't have to suffer with it too much longer. If I turn on a movie and it starts out with rap I turn it off. I really dispise the shit.
