Why the GOP loses credibility with voters...

douchebags like this who harbor a politically useful hatred towards gays but are engaging in far worse behavior.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/05/12/2008-05-12_fossella_shuns_his_gay_sister__source.html

Vito Fossella built a career as a staunch "family values" pol, polishing his image in his predominantly Catholic district with a string of anti-gay votes.
He even shuns his gay sister, Victoria Fossella, refusing to go to family events if she and her partner attend, a source close to the family said.
His double life is now exposed with the news he has a 3-year-old love child with a divorced Air Force colonel, and critics are calling him a hypocrite.
"Has the Catholic Church now sanctioned adultery?" asked John Adrian, a 64-year-old gay activist on Staten Island.
"That just makes him that more hypocritical."
As congressman, Fossella voted to prohibit any funding for joint adoptions by gay couples.

This idiot shuns his own sister, screws around on his wife, has an out of wedlock child and nearly kills some innocent citizen on the roads as a drunk driver.

Family values should be about supporting families to have job training and educational opportunities, healthcare, a decent shot at housing and savings and getting rid of taxes and laws that penalize people for being married and reward them for taking care of their kids and themselves.

You should not be considered "pro-family values" by bashing gays or going after them for trying to get married. We heterosexuals have enough trouble trying to keep our marriages alive and healthy to be out there beating on the gays again.

I mean before using anecdotal to spread your bias?

What bias?

Here we have yet another GOP legislator embarrassing us with disgraceful behavior that directly contradicts the supposed moral superiority he was claiming when he was busy chasing down gays in Congress.

How many is that in the past 2 years alone? I'm counting 8-9 without even Googling... How about instead of exposing ourselves to truthful hypocrisy charges and relentlessly harassing a particular set of social deviants who aren't harming anyone that we can tell, we start focusing on the pornographers in Hollywood, on network TV (which has a freaking show about swingers in the 70's on primetime now on CBS) and in the reality shows, the companies peddling sex to our kids at age 10 and the irresponsible parents who think raising their kids consists of turning the TV and computer on and letting them do the parenting?

We have priorities. Its time to lay off the gays and get back to issues like fiscal responsibility, rebuilding the military, repairing the consensus on free trade so we don't lose NAFTA or anything else, supporting families fiscally and institutionally.

Even better, what do gays have to do with economic competitiveness in the global order, illegal immigration and terrorism, to mention just 3 other of our major issues?

How does going after gays like this douche bag did to peddle for votes help make this country stronger or the party better?

I guess it's a good thing Democrats claim no moral high ground. No need for them to worry about living up to any ideals and suffering the embarrassment that ensues when it turns out they're only human. They can simply praise each other on the Senate floor and work to get each other re-elected.

Vito is a scumbag and a hypocrite.

They certainly claim the high ground "We support the working families mantra" often, but they've had to compete hard to match the spiteful hypocrisy of certain elements of the GOP over the past 15-20 years with regards to gays and "Values".

Hell, going back to Gingrich going after Clinton for lying in office about Monica while he was banging his cute young thing and lying to his wife and his family about it for months.....

Or the preachers like Falwell and co. who took glee in denying gays the most basic of dignity on their deathbeds during the 80's and the AIDS scare.

What is your obsession with gays? I don't hear the GOP running ads against gays. Think maybe you're a little paranoid?

1. Its a long-standing issue of mine with the party.

2. Gays and gay marriage is going to potentially be a big deal by the summer if California's Supreme Court rules in favor of the gays. The uproar will be deafening, perhaps even more so than Mass. in 2004.

The problem is these phoney conservatives. Let's elect real ones. This should be helping us find good leadership not encouraging us to stay home and let Democrats win.

As I said, extrapolating from the anecdotal, not fair or objective.

People will never be perfect---should that stop anyone from speaking of the virtues of at least making a stab at it ?
