The answer to lower gas prices is so damn simple. Drill for the oil we have in the US AND increase refinery capacity

Let's Drill
There's oil in them thar hills.
by Fred Barnes
05/26/2008, Volume 013, Issue 35

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, the Mr. Magoo of American politics, stumbled onto the truth last week. He discovered the law of supply and demand. "We want to put [more oil] on the market to increase supply and lower prices," Reid said. "With oil and gas prices continuing to break record highs every day, much more needs to be done."

Indeed it does. But Reid won't allow it. His understanding of economics only extends to matters in which he might embarrass President Bush. The oil he wants on the market is the oil the administration is buying for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), now nearly full. Reid got his way. The administration now plans to stop oil shipments to the SPR next month.

Beyond that, Reid and his party are committed to suppressing increased oil production in this country, as they wait for that magical day when fossil fuels are no longer needed to supply the nation's energy needs.

That day may come in 50, 60, 70 years--or never. In the meantime, America needs oil, and the good news is we're awash in the stuff. If the oil reserves miles off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and in federally owned lands in the West and Alaska were tapped, our dependence on foreign oil could begin to be reversed. In 10 years, half of America's oil could be produced at home (up from 40 percent), with more coming from increased exports from Canada.

We wouldn't achieve energy independence. That's a pipedream, and anyway it isn't necessary in a global economy with multiple producers. But America would be taking a big step toward energy security and reducing the flow of dollars to unstable countries--notably Iran and Venezuela--that do not wish us well.

What the hell is the Dems energy plan?

They are opposed to drilling, building nuclear plants, and coal

They think tens of billions of new taxes on oil companies will lower the price at the pump

Then they call oil company profits obscene, while taxes are 4 to 6 times what the oil companies make on a gallon of gas

Yes, but the taxes go to the government, not some greedy profitmongering company getting rich on the back of those poor people.

It's the start of socialism. They get to decide what's obscene profit and take the ecess from the company. Today it's big oil, tomorrow it'll be someone else until they control it all.

I have seen pointy head libs on TV calling for an INCREASE on the gas tax - so consumption will go down. I guess they really do want the US in a recesion

Hillary has openly said she will "take those profits" and invest them as she sees fit

Much like her buddy Hugo has done

By November the Democratic Party will own the high gas prices and be shown to be going down on their environmental lobby in public. McCain sucks on no drilling in ANWAR but at least he will drill off shore and do nukes and clean coal. The Democrats are like a ship without a rudder and they want to power it with a solar panel.

I think gas prices have nearly DOUBLED since Dems took over Congress. They also promised they would LOWER gas prices if they were elected

What they hell are they waiting for?

I've all but given up on ANWR being opened up.

Perhaps when gas hits 5 bucks a gallon the rest of the country will stop buying into the Greenies' bullshit and we can start drilling.

Alaska's been ready to roll, Congress has stopped every effort... very frustrating to us up here.

$5 gas will start to really hurt the economy, and perhaps then the people will speak up and force them to back down

It worked for the amnesty bil

So far Dems have done zip to even try and tackle high oil prices - they just use it as an campaign issue

ABC's Latest Gas Price Victim Can 'No Longer Take Joy Rides'
By Brent Baker | May 20, 2008 - 08:48 ET

Six days after ABC's World News fretted over a New Jersey woman who said she must skip breakfast to put $4 a day toward gas, Monday's newscast featured an even more hapless woman, a Massachusetts resident who to afford gas sacrifices a “much needed” $45 prescription, says she can “no longer take joy rides on my days off” and, horror of horrors, has been forced into “buying store brands instead of name brands.” Now, Rosaria Giamei complained in a soundbite: “I don't get out and enjoy things anymore. I just kind of sit at home and only go to and from work and, like, grocery shopping and that's it.” How about taking a walk or riding a bike?

“Tonight, gas and diesel hit another record,” anchor Charles Gibson teased his lead story, “people tell us they're sacrificing food, health, and their lifestyle just to fill the tank.” Dan Harris reported:

The pain is being felt all over the country. We here at ABC News are getting flooded with messages from people like Rosaria Giamei, who says, "I even stopped filling a much needed monthly prescription that costs $45 so I will have more money for gas." We found Rosaria in Massachusetts today fuming at the oil companies and bemoaning the changes she's had to make in her personal life.

Well hang on to your hat, because it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

I can see riots over the price of gas once it hits six or seven dollars a gallon. People will turn into mobs and march on Washington, and they're not going to be a happy bunch. I'll probably march with them. I'd love nothing more than to fuck some shit up in Washington. It seems to be the only way you can get these rat bastards attention.

While I like to piss and moan when I'm filling up my truck, there's a lot more we're paying in other areas because of the sky-high fuel.

I was talking to an independent trucker the other day, we got to discussing how damned expensive diesel is. I mentioned it cost me $130 to fill up my Dodge, he grinned and told me he just shelled out $1400 to fill up his rig. That all gets passed on to all of us consumers at every store we enter.

Gallon of gas in Wasilla : $4.10
Gallon of milk at store : $3.50

Pretty sad when a gallon of gas costs more than a gallon of milk.

and while the libs (and RINO's) kiss the ass of the enviro wackos, they will blame the oil companies and Republicans for the high gas prices

MFM tried in vain to duck the fact Dems have done nothing to try and lower gas prices.

Libs think higher taxes will lower them, and they can grin over sticking it to another corporation

Hannity Exposes Gore’s Connection to Ethanol and Higher Food Prices
By Noel Sheppard | May 13, 2008 - 14:29 ET

Since media began recognizing the international food crisis and its ties to biofuels, NewsBusters has been wondering when press members will expose how intricately linked Nobel Laureate Al Gore is to this controversial issue.

On Sunday, Fox News's Sean Hannity finally did just that.

In a segment on "Hannity's America," the host addressed much of what NewsBusters has been reporting for the past several months about this matter, and established a template that hopefully others in the media will emulate if they are indeed interested in helping to solve this growing problem

Right now, Pres bush and Republicans should be screaming about more drilling and more refineries. Why they are not is beyond me.

Libs realy love the high gas prices. They more people are hurting, the happier libs are. They will do nothing to lower gas prices - they want high gas prices as a campaign issue

If Obama gets in - OMG - watch gas prcies skyrocket and Dems pass tens of billions in tax increases on the oil companies

Which is fine, with the tax increases Dems will put on companies and workers - we will not have jobs to drive to, so we will not have to buy as much gas as we were before the election
