MINNEAPOLIS -- A new ordinance in Minneapolis limits vehicle idling at three minutes.

Mayor R.T. Rybak says the idea is to reduce air pollution.

City Council member Sandy Colvin Roy says cars don't need more than one minute to warm up, even in the winter.

The ordinance limits most vehicles idling to three minutes, except in traffic.

Unenforceable, and ridiculous.

Good thing I avoid DT Murderapolis like the plague... that kind of bullshit wouldn't fly up here.

My husband's sister lives in Minneapolis. Her husband has an older car that takes five to 10 minutes to warm up in the winter.
I somehow envision police driving around with stopwatches, checking out idling times.

Is this really what we want from our government?

At the parking lot at Snowshoe, VT they have a sign that prohibits any idling, and then goes on with a "clean air" explanation. This is a northern Vermont location! Sorry, but I'm not going to leave my family freezing in the car while I wait in line to check in. Ain't happening, and it didn't.

It's just another way for our government to make money from us if they happen to catch you.

I guess we get the government we want.:cheers2:
