One could make similar associations like this:

Barack Obama flew somewhere today. His plane used fuel made from oil. Oil comes from the Middle East, which is where terrorists come from. Therefore, Obama loves and supports terrorism.

The point is you do make those arguments, the difference is they give you comfort from reality.
