oh yeah, it is 97 degrees, real good weather for the fire

According to emergency dispatchers, callers reported a motorist set spot fires at four or five areas along the freeway about 20 feet apart, which quickly spread. At 2:15 p.m., residents at 134 Trabing Road called to say fire surrounded their house and they were trapped inside

hwy one is closed in both directions in watsonville for 5 miles

the little coastal road you see in my pics above, which has little traffic most of the time, is bumper to bumper with people trying to get around hwy 1 closures

this is sick, wtf was that guy thinking

fire is now contained and oddly, despite a massive heat wave, we have rain, thunder and lightening in capitola

Only one small fire? We would laugh at your alarm here in the World Headquarters for Wildfires. :p

thanks. the crews did an excellent job containing this. i think it might be due the large fire in west santa cruz mountains last week...more crews on trigger alert...because this fire was purposefully set by some scum...the lightening today actually caused new fires, but they are not as close as that one.

drove down to monterey today and driving past the fire was sad, so many structures burned...one firefighter reported watching a horse go up in flames because the owner could not not get the horse out quickly enough, that is how fast the flames moved

Yep, it certainly is something at which one should laugh.

You have to love that liberal compasion.
