God and god's word determine what I believe because, I believe god created us, and I believe he is right about everything. I believe he created morals and values, and i base mine on the map he gave us.

For me politics and elections are to be used for the betterment of the entire country. That we should help our fellow man is an ethical position for me.
This nation has changed and so has the known world in 200 + years so what was possible at one time is not now. Poor people used to have poor farms where they could work and grow food to eat. In our modern world today the idea could work but only in rural areas.
Education is the key out of poverty. Horace Mann saw this. National education as opposed to a select few being educated would improve the innovation of America.
Politicians of today do not address any issue in substantive dialog. One has to guess their true intent. Money is the driving force in presidential races and it should be the citizens of this nation who are addressed first not the donators.

The key items that determine your politics, are (you), parents, education, social position, class, and that vague thing sometimes called empathy/experience/a sense we are on the same boat. My mother's tales of the depression, my father's cynical ranting about the have and havenots, college educated people tend to be more liberal because an education offered you the ability to see all sides of issues and recognize that luck and chance had a lot to do with your current position. Social position and class work both ways, some imagine they made it all on their own, others imagine their failure was all on their own. Empathy etc, now there's the tough one, how is it the same situation can be viewed so differently. Each person sees the world through the mirror which is them. I would also add an ability to be honest about life and its complexity.

WTF does God have to do with politics?

I believe in god, and his moral principles

just because you might not agree with me doesnt mean you have to be rude about it

Need for national security;

Also need for personal independence of action.

Not having communistic/socialist income-redistribution is important to me.

Truth. Because if you dont govern with true principles you end up seeing people die.
