WASHINGTON (AFP) - A US woman accused of running a luxury prostitution service in the US capital is threatening to sell her list of high-profile clients in order to pay for her defense, her lawyer said Friday.

Deborah Palfrey, 50, known as the "Madam of Washington" was due to be arraigned Friday by a federal court in the US capital on charges of operating a prostitution service for 13 years until her retirement in 2006.

Her California home and other assets were seized by US tax authorities in October, and Palfrey has been trying to raise funds for her defense through an appeal on her website.

"Consideration is being given to selling the entire 46 pounds (20 kilos) of detailed and itemized phone records for the 13 year period, to raise the requisite defense funds," she writes on her website.

Palfrey said her company, Pamela Martin and Associates, was a "high-end adult fantasy firm which offered legal sexual and erotic services across the spectrum of adult sexual behavior and did so without incident during its 13 year tenure."

Her lawyer, Montgomery Blair Sibley, said on Fox television: "The statistical certainty (is) that there are a fair number of high-profile people who used this service across the government and private sector in the metropolitan D.C. area."
