Didn't the Dems promise in 2006 to work with Republicans? To allow the minority to take part in debates? To work hard to lower gas prices?

GOP to Pelosi: Open These Doors So We Can Vote

Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, one of nearly 100 Republican members of Congress who have come back to Washington to demand a vote on a comprehensive energy bill, held up a sign Tuesday with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office number on it and pointed toward the closed doors of the House chamber.

“We’re having people call this number and say, ‘Speaker Pelosi, Open those doors. Call us back into session and allow us to vote on a comprehensive energy plan.’”

It was a moment typical of the untypical political theater that has gripped the nation’s capital over the past two days, and the Republicans were enjoying every minute of it.

“What’s happening right now is completely unprecedented,” Rep. Mike Pence told bloggers who had been invited to meet Republican leaders in the office of Minority Leader John Boehner.

Pence and other top Republicans said that they were “surprised” at how the impromptu protest that began on Friday, when Pelosi gaveled the House into an election-season recess, snowballed into a movement of outrage that has rocked voters from coast to coast.

Since then, Republican members of Congress have come back from their districts to occupy the House chamber so they can talk about the bipartisan energy bill that Pelosi refuses to bring to a vote, even though the House speaker ordered pulled the plug on the microphones and the lights and ordered C-SPAN to turn off its TV cameras.

“Members are coming back to Capitol Hill, leaving behind their families, to take a stand for energy independence,” Pence said.

Pelosi is doing the responsible thing. The Big Oil drill everywhere, drill forever plan is just plain stupid. There's no reason to give it or the Big Oil stooges any special attention.

Why are you libs so SCARED to have an up and down vote? Are you SCARED many Dems will vote to increase our oil supply thus lowering the price?

Keep wanting to block the solution to lower gas prices Joe. Pissed off voters will let you know how they feel in November

Or not, if the gas prices continue to go down. All the Dems have to do is hold out till early November (and people haven't gotten any heating oil bills yet by that time, so the public won't yet be angry about that).

After November, they can do as they like however much the public howls.

That's the new political tactic, as I'm seeing it since Pelosi didn't bother to stop the war:

First just do whatever it takes to win, then do whatever you want.

Pelosi's abuse of power by blocking a vote will not play well as folks continue to pay $4/gal for gas

People see the drop BEFORE drilling starts - they want the drilling NOW - and the prices to keep dropping

Gas is down about 10 cents where I am. It should be alot less if Dems would do what is best for the people and not for their tree hugger base

It's not worth the attention. A vote would be surrendering to childish petulance. Adults can't do that.

Drilling will have no impact on gas prices.

Why is that so difficult for you to understand?

I told you WHY.

Adults don't respond to childish petulance and tantrums.

No, you are ducking and hiding like Pelosi and Reid will be from the tree huggers, after they cave and lose the drilling vote

Then let them drill. What's so bad about having more oil?

Sure they do. They punish children.

But we aren't children. We are all adults. And any thinking adult understands that the more there is of something the cheaper it is.

It would be a disaster for Dems. As the oil is pumped, the price of oil drops. Then the price at the pump goes down

People start driving more again

SUV sales go up

And Dems are proved to be wrong on the issue and voters realize Dems were trying to keep the price of gas up for political reasons

Its not just about gas prices. Its getting us off FORIEGN oil. Why pay other countries to drill our oil when we could be paying Americans to do it (and do it with stricter environmental standards)?
