Obama said McCain likes to portray himself as a maverick but that he ceded the role by adopting many conventional Republican policies to win his party's presidential nomination for the November 4 election, which is now 90 days away.

"You can't be a maverick when politically it's working for you and not a maverick when it doesn't work for you, when you received your party's nomination," Obama said.

this from a guy who has changed numerous positions after getting his party's nomination...

personally, obama is melting, he knows the halo is wearing off and people are seeing him for the hack he really is so he attacks mccain, but claims the moral high ground by not getting involved in dirty politics or the politics of old.

Curious but if McCain were a maverick (whatever that is) he would not have a snowballs chance in hell of getting the republican nomination. I wonder if he is elected if he could return to the person most republicans strongly disliked? It would be a curious leap in politics. I've always thought a complete charlatan could be elected in this country, if they only chanted the proper mantras, especially in the republican party. Our current pres is sorta an example!

wonderful, you just described obama...had one stance during the primaries, now has shifted far to the right on many issues angering much of his base. he knows the libs will not vote for a repub, so he goes left, fakes right and in office he will go back to far left.

Obama is not dumb enough to think a liberal can win a national electon. he saw libs like Kerry, Gore, and Mondale crash and burn

He is doing his Liberal 2 step dance trying to con enough voters into thinking he is not a typical tax and spend liberal
