Scientists Create Mice Resistant to Obesity

SUNDAY, Aug. 10 (HealthDay News) -- Researchers have developed a strain of mice resistant to diet-induced obesity.

The findings could one day lead to possible drug treatments for obesity in people. They also shed light on the brain circuitry that controls energy homeostasis -- the balance between how much energy (i.e., food) an animal takes in and how quickly it burns that energy.

Dr. Julio Licinio, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, called the research a "technological tour de force."

I think responsible personal restraint is better than drug induced restraint. I feel the same way about anti-depressants. I think it all leads to a nanny state where no one has any personal responsibility any longer. Just gimme some more drugs and I will be just fine.

I agree that in most cases, behavior modification treatment, seeing a psycologist, and psycologist, having a support system, and personal responsibility are better then pills

would you concede some situations warrant medication?

I am getting a hold of my anger, not by pills, but by no longer watching porn for the last 2-3 weeks, and... losing weight

my mom started me on a lifestyle, and now i do 80% of the work, and have lost 21.6 pounds in 6-8 weeks, i cant remember the exact amount of time, but i am taking responsibility.

But someone hearing voices, or cutting themselves might need some meds, but everyone or most needing meds, hell no, on a case by case basis

please tell me where i am wrong good sir

Absolutely I agree that some circumstances warrant the use of medications. There may be times for psych doctors to get involved in peoples lives but not much of the way they are currently.
