Not only a beauty queen, Sarah Palin knows how get an earmark. It's enough to make all that talk about refusing the money for the bridge to nowhere ring hollow.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin employed a lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks for a town of 6,700 residents while she was its mayor, according to an analysis by an independent government watchdog group.

There was $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project -- all intended to benefit Palin's town, Wasilla, located about 45 miles north of Anchorage.

In introducing Palin as his running mate on Friday, Sen. John McCain cast her as a compatriot in his battle against wasteful federal spending. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, hailed Palin as a politician "with an outstanding reputation for standing up to special interests and entrenched bureaucracies -- someone who has fought against corruption and the failed policies of the past, someone who's stopped government from wasting taxpayers' money."

A former beauty queen...Hmmm...Well howdy do! That "naughty librarian" vibe has McCain all shook up, as we can see in this YouTube video of McCain introducing her. Notice how he keeps ogling her backside as he fidgets with his wedding ring.

Here are the actual numbers on who are the top porkers - and they want more of our money to piss through

Hillary Queen of Pork Gets $530M in Earmarks
November 9, 2007
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) has won tens of millions of dollars more in federal earmarks this year than her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination, even though two of them have significantly more Senate seniority.

A review of the first three appropriations conference reports finished by Senate and House negotiators shows that Clinton has successfully requested at least $530 million worth of projects.

Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), Clinton’s chief rival for the nomination, has so far won $40.6 million in earmarked funds for his constituents, despite the fact that his home-state colleague and booster, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), sits on the Appropriations Committee.

Clinton’s greater haul of federal funds may be due partly to her four more years of Senate seniority than Obama. But seniority is only part of it.

Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.), who is also running for president and first won election to the Senate in 1972, garnered $67 million worth of projects.

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), who came to the Senate in 1981, helped place $100 million worth of earmarks in the three spending bills that have emerged from House-Senate negotiations.

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the lone Republican presidential candidate in the Senate, did not win a single earmark in the spending bills. He has chosen instead to position himself on the hustings as a leading critic of excessive government spending.

Now that we have determined Hillary is the Queen of Pork - who is the King

Well, the King of Pork is John "they killed in cold blood" Murtha - another tax and spend lib who wants more of our money

John Murtha King of Pork
James Joyner | Tuesday, October 30, 2007

John Murtha gets more pork for his district than any other Representative.

If John Murtha were a businessman, he’d be the biggest employer in this town.

The powerful U.S. congressman has used his clout on Capitol Hill to create thousands of jobs and steer billions of dollars in federal spending to help his hometown in western Pennsylvania recover from devastating floods and the flight of its steelmakers.

More is on the way. In the massive 2008 military-spending bill now before Congress — which could go to a House-Senate conference as soon as Thursday — Mr. Murtha has steered more taxpayer funds to his congressional district than any other member. The Democratic lawmaker is chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, which will oversee more than $459 billion in military spending this year.

Johnstown’s good fortune has come at the expense of taxpayers everywhere else. Defense contractors have found that if they open an office here and hire the right lobbyist, they can get lucrative, no-bid contracts. Over the past decade, Concurrent Technologies Corp., a defense-research firm that employs 800 here, got hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to Rep. Murtha despite poor reviews by Pentagon auditors. The National Drug Intelligence Center, with 300 workers, got $509 million, though the White House has tried for years to shut it down as wasteful and unnecessary. Another beneficiary: MTS Technologies, run by a man who got his start some 40 years ago shining shoes at Mr. Murtha’s Johnstown Minute Car Wash.

Thats’ quite a haul; Robert Byrd would be proud. So is Murtha.

You're not paying attention.

Republicons hate earmarks. Their purpose doesn't make any difference. It's the process that bothers them...unless, of course, they're Republicon earmarks.

Whats wrong with a town getting money for such upgrades to infrastructure? I thought thats what Obama and the Dems were complaining about, that cities aren't getting enough funding for those thing.

Compare that to Obama's earmarks, he got 14 million for his personal buddy Tony Rezko, and another million for his wife's employer.

Politicians politicing for their constituents is always going to happen, its really their job to. But pulling in favors for person friends and family is way out of line.

As governor, Palin didn't get the earmarks for her state. She just distributes them. The two senators from Alaska were the ones that got the earmarks.

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Palin was Earmark Czarina. She's dirty.

[Palin] was an eager recipient of earmarked money as a mayor and governor. (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/03/opinion/03wed1.html?ref=opinion)

Mayor Palin gathered up $27 million in subsidies from Washington, $15 million of it for a railroad from her town to the ski resort hometown of Senator Ted Stevens, now under indictment for failing to report gifts.

The Republicans are presenting Ms. Palin as a crusader against Mr. Stevens’s infamous “Bridge to Nowhere.” The record says otherwise; she initially supported Mr. Stevens’s boondoggle, diverting the money to other projects when the bridge became a political disaster. In her speech to the Wasilla Assembly of God in June, Ms. Palin said it was “God’s will” that the federal government contribute to a $30 billion gas pipeline she wants built in Alaska.
************************************************** **

Ho, boy. "God's will," huh.

And McCain is supposed to be against this rape of the taxpayers the GOP has been doing? Not so much, I guess, if this is his VP.
