the dems should be careful where they leave their american flags.

McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags from the site of Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday, redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

She said:

But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry out a “cheap political stunt.”

Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.

“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.

Who's telling the truth?

If the DNC discarded those flags that is very wrong, but then how do we know that those flags are from Invesco Field and from the convention or that they weren't taken from the crew that was packing up from the convention?

Unless there is proof of the "rescue" of these flags, this debate should go about as far as the "Sambo" unproven claims presented by Obama supporters. In other words, it should end now.

Since when is "reported to Fox News" supposed to be taken as the truth. When stories are "reported to MSNBC," you scream liberal bias.

No amount of bias changes fact.

Why should it be a surprise. The flag is a sign of the America they hate.

They probably already have another flag made to replace our flag with a crescent and a glowing image of Berry on it.

Kind of hard to do when there are no verifiable facts posted. How about the names of the individuals that found the flags? Sworn testimony? Even a quote from the people who found the flags along with their names so that an independent source can verify their stories?

I'm not saying it didn't happen. I'm saying the journalist conveniently left out important information, which then makes it unverifiable and little more than propaganda.

That is why I think this should end here. If the RNC isn't willing to identify those who found the flags, then we should all be suspect as to the authenticity of the claim.

Which party? I'm sure they will take sides. The trick would be to find an impartial official that could make a ruling on it.

This is the original story in the Denver Post which isn't exactly a conservative newspaper, not by any stretch.

UPDATED: Republican Recycling
by David Harsanyi on September 6, 2008

This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.

“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”

I’m not sure what the DNC was supposed to do with unused hand-flags, frankly. But the Republicans are obviously questioning someone’s patriotism here.

This site refutes and clears the air about those "dirty flags".

Campaigns feud over bags of U.S. flags

The McCain and Obama campaigns are feuding about the flag. The spat began at an airport rally for McCain and running mate Sarah Palin. Before the Republican presidential ticket took the stage, radio personality Dan Caplis said veterans were going to give the crowd thousands of small U.S. flags that were discarded and rescued from Obama's Democratic National Convention rally in Denver.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The McCain and Obama campaigns are feuding about the flag.

McCain supporters said a vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and around garbage bins after the convention, recovered them and gave them to the McCain campaign.

"We want to find good homes for these flags," Caplis said as veterans carrying plastic garbage bags full of neatly rolled flags distributed them.

A Democratic National Committee spokeswoman said the flags were snatched — not discarded — from Invesco Field.

"American flags were proudly waved by the 75,000 people who joined Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention," said Karen Finney, a Democratic National Committee spokeswoman. McCain "supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt."

Clinton sidesteps questions on Palin

NEW YORK — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton marched for labor and stumped with Democrats on Saturday but sidestepped questions about Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

"This election is about issues, and that's what's going to matter to people at the end of the day," she said after being asked about the Alaska governor.

She only mentioned Palin by name once, at a labor breakfast, when she uttered a modified version of a line from her speech at the Democratic National Convention: "No way, no how, no McCain, no Palin."
