I just found this in one of my old files and I just wanted everyone to have a look at it and comment appropriately. I will never forget the first time I ever read it and how impressed I was at the time. This was written by a person that I sometimes agree with, often disagree with and I am many times completely baffled by remarks under said name, but this is about as genuine, thoughtful, inviting and intelligent as any opening statement of purpose I have ever seen. I will admit to have taken the liberty to change the name of it’s original origin. If I have stepped on any toes or taken the liberty ill-advisably (Nobody has advised me on this) I’ll take my 20 lashings and please feel free to ostracize me and make any changes or even delete altogether this reference and post.

We cater to all varieties of people, from liberal, moderate, and conservative to socialist and anarchist!

The Debate Policy Board is the answer for Americans and non-Americans alike who want to meet and discuss the issues of the day. The Debate Policy Board has a long and successful history of bringing together liberals and conservatives in discussion. We find that working together is not only a creative end in itself, but also a powerful tool for educating others in the world how to live in harmony. While discussions can get heated, and occasionally even turn to name calling, the Debate Policy Board offers the chance to all to speak their mind freely. We believe in freedom of speech and the beauty of diversity, and do not kick people off because their opinions are ‘different.’

So.... what exactly are you trying to say? I see you quoting purposes of the board but you never get into the why. So what is your point?

To be fair, someone else (I think Creek) had written the "first draft" of that document, and I told Jim I would revise it to make it more inclusive of what the board had grown into at that point.

I think I made my point, a4321.

Don't be so damned paranoid. I gave it hoest appraisal, you got a problem with it them spit it out and we'll give it honest examination. OK?

Yep, kudos to Creek for the original version and Jeff for the updated version.

Thanks, banjopicker (and GOPJEFF, too). The document being discussed here is perfect as far as I can tell. I didn't read that document until long after I had been posting at the other place and I only saw it after I had been banned for an infraction for which I was probably guilty. But, I did read it then and it has made a world of difference in the way I approach this board as well as that one.

Even though, lord, I am still a sinner but thank you for not relegating me to the eternal fires of hell. As a hedonist, I don't think I would like that at all. :salute:

Thanks, banjopicker (and GOPJEFF, too).

Actually, the 5string thing is because I play the five string bass, not the banjo. But I've had a few others say the same thing, so it's cool.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, jeff.

I can't even imagine what "Deliverance, Dueling Banjos" might sound like on a 5 string bass!!!!!! I know that I wouldn't be listening to it for very long!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, gabby. When you see me in on the board actually posting I am most generally on my comfy throne, kickin' back, drinkin' a beer and wishing "Good Will" to the world.

Other times I am far too involved, far too focused on something that might make another person more wealthy (a job) or just tryin' to keep the puppy from shittin' in the floor!!!! Can you dig it?

I don't think we're burning forum sinners at the stake yet, gabby. If so, you and I need to recommend some good bar-b-que sauce. If they are going to cook me I hope that they at least eat me and I hope that I taste good for them!!!!!!!

All you did was quote it. You never stated any sort of point to it. So is the only reason you posted it to say you approve?

Don't be an ass. Just explain yourself.

I posted the post because I thought it might be of interest to some who had seen it before and others who had not.

It is a gem of an opening statement to any board, I already stated that. It is well written and something even this old example of public school educated trash appreciates. It compels me to reiterate and expound it's attributes by only re-posting it.

I posted it because I wanted to post it, seriously.

What is that? You got snot on your nose or where have you been?

Actually, he did add a bit of editorial at the end of the OP:

"I was and remained impressed with this most excellent invitation to participate.

This board seems to be a good blend of thoughtful, well-informed liberals and gun-toting right-wing wackos.

The moderation is excellent, in my opinion. The moderators let the players play.

I like the fact that I can punctuate my posts with salty language. Sometimes, no other words quite convey your meaning (or your deranged state of mind).

I stated my purpose in the original post, a4321. I re-stated it in subsequent posts. I even explained it in language I thought understandable to an average 4th grader.

I am truly sorry you missed it. Oh, I forgot, you are lemming not just the average follower.
