At Least 55 Dead in Suicide Attack in Pakistan
Saturday, September 20, 2008

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A huge truck bomb devastated the Marriott Hotel in Pakistan's capital Saturday, creating a chaotic, fiery scene as rescue crews searched for survivors. At least 55 people have been reported killed and more than 120 injured.

The blast left a 30-foot deep crater in front of the main building, where flames poured from the windows and rescuers ferried a stream of bloodied bodies from the gutted building -- which was in danger of collapsing.

The five-floor Marriott in Islamabad is a favorite place for foreigners as well as Pakistani politicians and business people to stay and socialize, despite repeated militant attacks. It served as the de facto back office for the international media during the 2001 war against the Taliban in neighboring Afghanistan.

Officials said at least 100 people were injured. Two hospitals said 10 foreigners were among those in their treatment, including one each from Germany, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Afghanistan.

Senior Police Official Asghar Raza Gardaizi said the blast, which reverberated throughout Islamabad, was caused by more than 2,204 pounds of explosives.

"We created the problem..." Just thought I'd anticipate the reply. THERE WERE NO TERRORISTS, well except for those few attackers on 9/11, which really was a copy cat of McVeigh. Oh yeah, it's all Israel's fault, well that we back them.

Actualy, Karl Rove planted the bomb and is trying to frame peaceful Muslims

Just like how Pres Bush was the "mastermind" behind 9-11

Suicide attack on hotel kills at least 40
Islamabad bombing further inflames anger at U.S.
Ayesha Akram and Muzamal Suherwardy, SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON TIMES

LAHORE, Pakistan | Saturday's bombing of the landmark Marriott Hotel in downtown Islamabad that killed at least 40 illustrates the domestic threat from terrorism facing Pakistan and could also be part of a new fall terrorist offensive against U.S. targets in the Muslim world.

At least one American was killed, hundreds were injured and more are feared dead in the 8 p.m. attack and subsequent fire that engulfed the five-story, 290-room hotel, only a few miles from the parliament house where President Asif Ali Zardari delivered his first address in late afternoon.

The bombing followed an attack last week on the U.S. Embassy in Yemen that killed 17 people, including a U.S. citizen.

ASSOCIATED PRESS 'OUR 9/11': Flames engulf a Marriott hotel after a terrorist attack in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday. The blast killed at least 40 people and wounded hundreds.

"Today's attack in Pakistan following the attempt in Yemen suggests that al Qaeda has begun a fall offensive to strike Western targets across the Islamic world," said Bruce Riedel, a former senior official on the White House National Security Council and a specialist on al Qaeda.

Witness Razia Sultana, 28, was heading out to pick up some groceries in the Pakistani capital when she heard the noise.

"I can't believe this," she said, her voice breaking as she struggled to speak. "These monsters are eating us alive."

The Marriott is popular with foreign guests. But during the holy month of Ramadan, local Pakistanis typically outnumber foreigners in the hotel's four restaurants, where they enjoy the evening meal after a day of fasting.

An explosives-laden truck had rammed into the gate of the Marriott, smashing through high-security barriers into a compound previously considered one of the safest spots in the capital.

Funny but I'm not scared of Muslims, I talk to a few everyday. The sign of intelligence is to recognize differences. You may want to eat fish, I hear it helps.

A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote to continue the same economic policies that are destroying the middle class in America.

The news this morning is that all of Pakistan's current top leaders were planning to be at that hotel when the bomb went off -----------------

But they changed the venue.

Smart security people.

Will the leaders of Pakistan be accused of the bombing like the kook left have said about Pres Bush and 9-11?

My guess is that it's the usual Paki fundamentalists; they want to replace the new prez and take over and prosecute a war with America. They probably think this new guy, Bhutto's hubby, has been bought by us. I sure hope he has been, because he's still alive today.

Sentiments are pretty hot over there right now because of this creeping war with the United States that is starting up.

Given that our supply lines for Afghanistan run through Pakistan, I wonder about a war with Pakistan -- whether we could reliably keep the supply lines running.

Obama has said he would invade Pakistan - so much for the anti war left opposing wars

They only oppose wars when a Republican is President

Personally, I oppose constantly invading countries, getting bogged down for years and years and losing the wars.

But hey, that's just me. I know most of you just love that sort of thing, the more of it the better.

Especially when our banks are collapsing and our economic system is failing. That's an especially GOOD time to keep waging hopeless wars year after weary year in sandpits far away, throwing away all our treasure and prosperity for the alleged "good" of people who want to kill us all or convert us by the sword.

Not that I'm bitter, of course.

Why worry? Obama will tax America into prosperity

Don't believe me - just ask him

I do find it amuzeing that when some terrorist blows up a building in another country that we are friendly with , and they don't blow up places where we aren't friendly, the concept of economic turbulence is what they want for America. We need to go into Pakistan and Afghanistan and root out the leaders. But Bushco had his plan for a legacy!

They don't blow up places in countries we aren't friendly with because those countries harbor them.

We are already in afghanistan.

We will be going into pakistan soon because they are the new focal point of al queda.

Attacking Muslims during the end of the holy Ramadam festival?

This was quite obviously the work of Bush/Rove.
