I don't know, but you're hint that Eisenhower's marginal rates were reasonable makes me think that you were thinking it would be a grand thing to see those kinds of rates again. You threw those numbers out not me. You pointed to them, not me.

I wonder what $400k/year in 1955 works out to be? I doubt there were too many CEO's that even came close to that figure back then. I know my parents told me that they were living on something like $175 (can't remember whether it was per week or per month but not much different) in 1961 when I was born. Or maybe that was one of those, "I walked five miles to school everyday up hill both ways", tales. My dad was in the Air Force.

But, let me guess, 90% of income above $400k would suit you and Obama quite happily.

Hey, I have an idea. Why don't you commit to donating say 105% of your income above say $60,000/year to Barack Obama's socialist government? Put your money where you mouth is. I imagine you make at least $60k. If you don't then set it at about 75% of your income and go from there.

Immie

kiss my ass, immie. NO one but you is saying anything about 90%. I point out that you want to claim that Obama would be driving us to socialism by bumping them up the 3-4% that the Bush tax cuts for millionaires dropped it to, but NO ONE ever calls Ike a socialist. Why the fuck IS that?
:poke:

right where they were during the Clinton administration. I think I already said that about twelve times.

I think you need to learn to count. I only see that once in this entire thread and I was not at my computer when you posted it.

Hmm, I don't think we are that far from those rates today.

http://www.truthandpolitics.org/top-rates.php

http://taxes.about.com/od/2007taxes/qt/2007_tax_rates.htm

Some how, I see Obama's socialized medicine plans alone at that rate skyrocketing the National Debt. Unless maybe his plan is to add a new tax like Social Insecurity in order to pay for his plan?

I wasn't around when Ike was President and quite honestly, I am not a historian of his Presidency. I'd have to say that it is not the tax rate that makes one a socialist, but rather what an administration plans on doing with those taxes that makes them a socialist. Obama is a socialist, no if's, and's or but's about it. He has stated repeatedly that he wants to take for those who have and give to those who do not so as to make everyone feel good about themselves. That in my book is socialism.

And kiss your own. :poke: If I visited you in Maine, I'd buy you a beer and probably give you a brotherly hug, but I'll be darned if I'm kissing your ass. :laugh2:

I don't think MFM is judging. I think MFM is speaking from his heart. I think he is wrong, but I still think MFM is speaking from the goodness of his heart... but he's still wrong. :D

You have. In any case, you do act as if you think you are God. You are not, not even close to what the apostles preached. You do not put forth any ideas towards acceptance, compromise, love; other than in your 'separate' posts in blogs of homilies.

You sir, are not a man of God, certainly not even close to such.

Okay, should I go with 75%? Heck that's way below the extreme rates.

Do I get to raz you if Obama becomes President and suggests we go above 60% which is an amount that I believe to be absurd? The government should not punish people for trying to do the best they can.

actually.... if you were to look back somehow, you would see that when I had a positive rep, my tone was much more strident than it is now. My negative rep is due almost entirely to RSR who neg reps me nearly every day. For the longest time, my rep kept going down and I didn't know why. It would indicate that I had a new rep, but when I clicked on it, there were no new rep comments to read. I finally figured out that it was RSR by temporarily removing him from my ignore list and then all of his rep comments became visible. I put him back on ignore and that is where he will stay. I would suggest that the little weasel is so frustrated that I won't respond to his unimaginative and repetitively boring slurs, that he neg reps me every day out of spite. So be it.:coffee:

My personal opinion (which isn't worth much) is that if MFM were to leave this site would be worthless. MFM is about the only liberal left on this site that will actually argue his position with even a tiny bit of intelligence and stick around to do so. Now, there are maybe one or two more such as Mundame and Gabby but they only pop in and out from time to time and carrying on an issue with them takes forever.

There are others who used to do this but for varying reasons they have all been run off.

The rest of the liberals on this site don't argue anything at all, they only hurl insults. MFM may spout more than his fair share of insults, but he mixes them in with his arguments.

Now, by saying the site would be worthless without him, that doesn't mean that I don't like the some of the conservatives on this site, but let's be real... do we really want another www.democraticunderground.com where everyone has to agree to the Republican talking points or be banned? Hell no!

Both Midcan and BP would fit in the category of sporatic posters. As for PB, although funny, he never seems to actually come out and argue anything at all. Lots of insults but... well... I am just not certain where he stands on any issue except for "Democrats all the way".

As for MFM being a partisan hack... well, I know you are not going to like this and again you will claim otherwise by saying you were never going to vote for McCain until Gov. Palin came along, but... pot, meet kettle.

Unlike MFM, I will take my party on, will admit when they are wrong, and I still say openly I do not trust McCain on many of the issues. This is an admisiion you would never get from MFM

Even when confronted with his previous posts, MFM will lie and then attack. In his world, Dems can never ever do nothing wrong.

Then he draws out his shield of his service, and whines how his patriotism is being questioned

I am voting more for Gov Palin, and not for McCain.

My friend, simply because you disagree with MFM and his party does not make him a partisan hack... although he is.

He passionately believes in the platform of his party. Maybe almost as much as he believes in God, but I don't know that. But, when one passionately believes in something he is going to defend it. I have never defended MFM's use of insults. I think he'd be a thousand times more effective without them, but then that is just me.

Immie... the real issue is that RSR cannot carry on a debate with his own words. He cuts and pastes or he uses the same tired one-liners over and over and over again. I have apologized for wishing RSR ill. Many times... but he really has no interest in forgiving me....and after our talk last week about the parable of the ungrateful servant, we both know where that will land poor RSR come judgment day. ;)

I really used to like to smack him around USMB but he found the membership there too even between left and right for his liking so he migrated here because of the preponderance of righties who were much more willing to accept his cut and paste repetitive style... I actually moved over here for much the same reason... there were far too many lefties on USMB and I wanted the challenge this place provided.

For me, however, RSR is not part of that challenge. He reminds me of the tarbaby.... you can punch him...he never punches back, but you get yourself stuck in a loop punching at the same old crap: other people's words repeated over and over again....that, and his non-stop insults of my patriotism and my service made me finally realize that life was much nicer without reading his tripe. It takes some discipline sometimes, because, on those rare occasions when he tried to say something on his own, he would get so flummoxed that it was quite entertaining to tie him up in his own misstatements. Nonetheless, I have stuck to my pledge to keep him on ignore and I think it remains a good decision.

No, my friend, he has apologized, which in my book is asking for forgiveness. You need to forgive him for all three times... you say it was three and I am taking your word for that. Regardless, for your own piece of mind, you need to forgive him about it.

You need not request that he fall on his own sword a thousand times just to make you happy.

Nonetheless, I have stuck to my pledge to keep him on ignore and I think it remains a good decision.

Since when is it a requirement on these boards that one be an adequate debater? I guess I should leave. If RSR cuts and pastes, then so what? It is his style.

As for USMB, I never found a home there. It just seemed to big and impersonal for me. I know there are several people that post on the same boards I have posted on that also reside over there, but USMB just doesn't have the flare that other boards have. IMHO

And finally, as a brother in Christ, I would ask you to look at the last paragraph of your post that I quoted here. It is time that you start practicing what you preach and forgive. You do preach forgiveness of sins... don't you?

Clearly you have not yet forgiven RSR. Maybe you need to forgive today rather than at some point in the future. We can never know when God will call us to account for our lives, now can we?

No, my friend, he has apologized, which in my book is asking for forgiveness. You need to forgive him for all three times... you say it was three and I am taking your word for that. Regardless, for your own piece of mind, you need to forgive him about it.

You need not request that he fall on his own sword a thousand times just to make you happy.

Immie, MFM is a coward who runs from honest debate, and falls back on his hate and huge ego

He can ignore me if he wants, but it is because he loses badly to me, and is unable to have a civil conversation

I forgave him, but he keeps it up, so I must admit that my forgiveness has lagged behind the things I need to forgive him for. I am trying, Immie... I really am. pray for me, pal. :)

you can smear the good works of Trinity UCC because of a few 30 second sound bites, but I ain't buyin' it. I personally think that Trinity UCC is a great church that has done the Lord's work in and around Chicago for decades. The president of the United Church of Christ nationwide has nothing but praise for that church.

How do you feel about the "speaking in tongues", "ready for rapture", "witch hunting" pastor who has been Sarah's spiritual advisor, by the way? :laugh2:

McCain finished at the bottom of his class at Annapolis.
Obama was editor of the Law Review at Harvard.

The President of the church may have praise for the church and it's good works. I was talking about the White hating, Jew hating, racist pastor who was Bambams spiritual advisor.

I also wasn't talking about Obama. You said he was going to surround himself with smart people. Biden isn't smart, his grades have already been posted on this forum. We don't know if Bambam is smart yet, since his grades haven't been posted.

I suspect that, much like Kerry who ranted daily on Bush's grades, we will find that Bambam did just as poorly in school. Proof on McCain's standing in Annapolis would be nice also........I could take your word for it, but I'm not going to.

MFM and others, love to twist things. Here are the facts on McCain and the Naval Academy

Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. There, he was a friend and informal leader for many of his classmates,[9] and sometimes stood up for people who were being bullied.[4] He also became a lightweight boxer.[10] McCain came into conflict with higher-ranking personnel, he did not always obey the rules, and that contributed to a low class rank (894 of 899) despite a strong intelligence.[9][11] He did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he struggled with, such as mathematics.[4][12] McCain graduated in 1958.[9]

obama was VOTED the position of editor, it is not a merit position

i'm sure people like mfm would forgive me and focus on all my good qualities if i called obama a f*cking nigger. but rev wright of course gets a pass and so does obama for haviing him as a spiritual mentor for two decades.

such hypocrisy would be laughable if it weren't so seriously screwed up and its effect so negative on this country.

Did Affirmative Action get McCain enrolled....???

Know what they called the 899th one?........................ENSIGN, same as the #1.....

And clearly, McCain had an advantage getting into Annapolis. His dad and granddad were both graduates and were both Admirals.

And...actually, they call him "Anchor Man" and he is 898 dollars richer than everyone else.

and they may or may not call him ensign.... they may call him 2nd Lieutenant.

Biden has a sort of cheerful chipperness I like. I've always sort of liked him. Of course, I'm from Maryland, and he's at least more appealing than OUR two senators.
