My jaw is officially on the floor. The Barack Obama campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who “lies or runs a misleading TV ad” during the presidential campaign; here’s a video report.http://www.kmov.com/video/index.html?nvid=285793&shu=1
UPDATE at 9/28/08 9:31:28 am:
A statement from Missouri Governor Matt Blunt on the Obama campaign’s abusive use of Missouri law enforcement.

Do we really want to go into this? Do we really want to get into a discussion of this vs the McCain/Feingold bill which trampled free speech rights?

Well its all related. You are saying that Obama is denying 1st amendment rights to free speech in Missouri.....cool....but his opponent is already on record denting all Americans the right to free political speech through McCain/Feingold.
It cuts both ways.

"The Stench of Police State Tactics"
If Barack Obama becomes President and takes over command of the Justice Department, it is reasonable to expect an assault on the First Amendment the like of which we haven't seen since the Jefferson administration. Here's the latest: in Missouri, Obama has enlisted his allies in public office, including St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, to threaten criminal prosecution of any Missouri television station that runs ads about Obama that are untrue. Since every politician sincerely believes that all ads run by his opponents are untrue, the field of potential criminal exposure is broad indeed.
Today, Missouri's Governor Matt Blunt responded strongly to Obama's attempted flouting of the Constitution:
St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment....

I wonder if he includes his own campaign in that? No, of course not.

I have to agree with the Obama people on this one and I would think McCain would too as lying caused McCain to lose in 2000. Libel is against the law in America, so go after the liars with white shirts as hard as you can.
A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote against the fundamental principle of America, the right of the individual to lead their life privately without the government interfering.
