Maybe this will shut up some of the senseless and hate filled garbage that is consuming too many feeble minds these days.

NEW YORK In a surprising a letter to the editor published in The New York Times today, the chief prosecutor of the Weather Underground in the 1970s expressed outrage over the linking of Barack Obama to Bill Ayers by the McCain campaign, adding, "Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen."

William C. Ibershof also corrects a charge in the Times: "I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of 'prosecutorial misconduct.' It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director................"

Here is the full letter:

As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.

Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.

Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.

I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of 'prosecutorial misconduct.' It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

William C. Ibershof
Mill Valley, Calif., Oct. 8, 2008

I already understand there will be some feeble minds that will cling to their mistaken beliefs and continue to make their unwise and unfair associations of Obama to "domestic terrorists". Weak, pitiful, even desperate all describe the nonsense that Senator Obama has had anything to do with any of that.

Like PB, Obama should embrace Ayers. They could take a picture together standing on the American Flag.

And you call yourself a moderator on a bipartisan political debate board?!?!?!??!

Like PB, Obama should embrace Ayers. They could take a picture together standing on the American Flag.

I don't embrace and have never said that I embrace William Ayers. I don't stand on the American flag, have never done so and would not tolerate it in my presense. Your feeble mind must have missed the point just like I predicted.

It's your own ignorance that you have to live with, bkr, and I can't help you with that if you're satisfied being that way. Help is available for you but you have to want it. Dig it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yet another ongoing set of past events that Obama must distance himself from, William Ayers.

Even PB won't embrace Ayers.

I didn't say that I "won't" embrace William Ayers either, Mr. Magoo.

The link between Ayers and Obama is indisputable. And I think its personally reasonable for people to question it.

Simply because he stopped bombing innocents, doesnt mean he believes his idealogy any less. Nor does it show him and Obama dont share ideals. Especially when its clear that they do.

I have never seen one iota of evidence linking him directly to any bombing whatsoever much less the "innocents" as you so ignorantly and wrongly imply.

No, bkr, I said a lot but you ignored what I said and you just made up some shit and wrote it down for the truth.

Like usual, you said nothing.

That's like what, page 51, para. 3 from the RNC playbook?

Ayers admitted he did the bombings. He said he wished he did more. How the hell can you possibly say there is no evidence???

You're not much of a courtroom/trial lawyer are you, a'21?

I have read where he said that. I don't know who wrote that or why they wrote it. Somehow I find that evidence pretty flimsy if it is evidence at all?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! As you already know, I am a somewhat nuanced individual. I don't apologize for that.

he "admitted" the bombings and said he wished he did more....but that is "not" evidence to the great psydeshow

if ayers is good, why doesn't obama defend him? why does obama distance himself from him and LIE about their relationship?

This SHOULD be good, but I doubt even the great PB can spin this one.

He has a long history of saying he believes in the ideology, just have to access it. Kind of makes you wonder why the MSM doesn't do so.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
"Memory is a motherfucker," begins 1960s-era political activist and Weather Underground member Ayers, who went underground with several comrades after their co-conspirators' bomb accidentally exploded in 1970, destroying a Greenwich Village townhouse and killing some of the activists involved. Ayers (A Kind and Just Parent), now a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois, grew up well-to-do, attended private schools and became politicized at the University of Michigan. He describes his spiraling New Left involvement as he became aware of what he casts as the injustice of U.S. involvement in Vietnam, inner-city race relations, and police brutality and battle tactics, especially in Chicago during demonstrations at the 1969 Democratic convention. The terrific first half of the memoir details 1950s and '60s U.S. culture his own childhood, shaped by images of the atomic bomb and TV war movies; the influence of Bob Dylan, Mao and Che Guevara on American youth but the book really takes off once he goes underground. He and his colleagues invent identities (often using names such as Nat Turner or Emma Goldman), travel continuously and avoid the police and FBI as Nixon bombs Cambodia and My Lai is ravaged. Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn raised two children underground before turning themselves in in 1981, when most charges were dropped because of "extreme governmental misconduct" during the long search for the fugitives. Written without self-righteousness or apology, this memoir rings of hard-learned truth and integrity and is an important contribution to literature on 1960s culture and American radicalism. (Sept.)Forecast: With advance praise from Hunter S. Thompson, Scott Turow, Studs Terkel and Rosellen Brown, plus a 20-city author tour, this ringing account should attract considerable review attention and solid sales.
