Give me real bacon. I love pork. Give me meat over vegies any day. Pretend meat just doesn't get it.

Every pretend meat I have ever tried tasted flat with no flavor.

Soybeans are definitely the most versatile plant there is. It can be made into just about anything.

mmmmmm bacon. With eggs and hash browns fried in the grease.

WTF is soylent green? I'm too lazy to look it up myself right now.

I have tried the 'veggieburgers', and if you top them with garlic salt, mozzarella, fresh lettuce & tomato and a bun, they're actually not bad. The texture is something like the old version (pre-1999 change-up) of McDonalds McChicken. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and only eats eggs & dairy, but no actual meat. She has come up with some pretty good veggie recipes that are low-fat & nutrient-rich. I don't mind vegetarian faire, so long as tofu isn't on the menu. Blech!

Ah crap, another, "Damn I'm old" moment...

Soylent Green is science fiction movie made in 1973 staring Charleton Heston and Edward G. Robinson. It depicts a future in which overpopulation leads to depleted resources on earth. This leads to widespread unemployment and poverty. Real fruit, vegetables, and meat are rare, commodities are expensive, and much of the population survives on processed food rations, including "soylent green" wafers. Heston is investigating the murder of a wealthy businessman.
