Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district includes San Francisco.

Star-Kist Tuna's headquarters are in San Francisco, Pelosi's home district.

Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi.

Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the
Samoan workforce.

Paul Pelosi, Nancy's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock.

In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25,
Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not
have to pay the higher wage. This would make Del Monte products less
expensive than their competition's.

Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to
the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an economic development credit
in American Samoa.

Pelosi says ...Republicans are corrupt ..

She should know.

Since you state that this came in an email from a friend, I wonder how much of that can be verified. I imagine that the fact (if they are indeed facts) that her husband (and her as well through contributions) would benefit from this exemption just slipped her mind.

How do you spell corrupt?

P-E-L-O-S-I?
D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T?
P-O-L-I-T-I-A-N?

is there a clearer picture of conflict of interest? aren't there ethical rules against this? and how in the heck to exempt an entire ethnic/national group and get a away with it?

but republicans get smeared for lobbyist ties, gifts, while pelosi absolutely robs us blind and not a peep

Robs us blind? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say that she robs the people of American Somoa blind in this case? In fact, we (well customers of Del Monte) benefit from this because of lower prices on super-market shelves. But, in effect, she is benefitting from her abuse of power (Gov Palin ought to remind Americans of this) through her husband and the contributions she receives from Del Monte.

Why doesn't she give the same exemption to Guam? Alaska? Hawaii?

It's because she is abusing her power.

Doggone! Being a politician sure has its perks.

They closed Treasure Island?

I didn't know that.

What is there now? And yes, I know I can look it up if I'm really concerned, but maybe you know.

Never mind... looked it up myself... looks like now it is just a bunch of over-priced housing.

Ah, my bad, you are correct, yurt, it does. But what is a few million measly dollars added onto the national debt?

On the other hand, it is still not robbing us blind as we won't be around to see that paid for anyway. It's robbing our great, great grandchildren blind.

Thanks Nancy... I hope you enjoyed screwing the country again.

Well, actually we could just withhold payment and make those who own our debt write it off as bad debt, but that would be a disaster for our economy.

But then, didn't Brazil default on its debt in the 1980's? If I'm not mistaken that was a disaster for their economy from which they have recovered.
