View Full Version : Obama Believes in "Spreading the Wealth..."

...Just not his wealth apparently.

Leave it to the foreign press to do the work the U.S. press won't do.

It seems as though Obama's dear aunt Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so lovingly mentioned in Dreams From My Father, has been found living in a disabled-access apartment in rundown public housing in South Boston.

Who says charity starts at home?

Found in a rundown Boston estate: Barack Obama’s aunt Zeituni Onyango

Barack Obama has lived one version of the American Dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story.

Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in Mr Obama’s best-selling memoir Dreams from My Father, lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

A second relative believed to be the long-lost “Uncle Omar” described in the book was beaten by armed robbers with a “sawed-off rifle” while working in a corner shop in the Dorchester area of the city. He was later evicted from his one-bedroom flat for failing to pay $2,324.20 (£1,488) arrears, according to the Boston Housing Court...

...

Speaking outside her home in Flaherty Way, South Boston, on Tuesday, Ms Onyango, 56, confirmed she was the “Auntie Zeituni” in Mr Obama’s memoir. She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone...”

...

The Obama campaign was repeatedly approached for comment yesterday but had not responded at the time of going to press. It is not clear whether Mr Obama has been in touch with his African relatives living in the US, or even whether he is aware that they are on US soil.

I find it difficult to believe that Obama was unaware that his relatives were in the U.S. for a few reasons. One, with all the hoopla surrounding his ground breaking nomination, I find it doubtful that Aunt Zeituni didn't reach out to him in some fashion. Two, with all the hoopla surrounding his ground breaking nomination, I find it doubtful that there wasn't extensive research and investigations done by his handlers. Three, who told her she can't speak until after the election? Four, having relatives myself who live in other countries, not once have they come to the U.S. and not informed me of their visit. But I suppose anything is possible, especially if one is willing to suspend disbelief.

doesn't he also have a step brother in africa living in squalor where $20 a month would vastly change his life...

your post made me think of something, slightly off topic, but maybe connected...obama has written books about his african father, mentioned his aunt in there...yet, pays virtually zero real life attention to them...who idea was it for obama to write books about himself? this dude has been groomed for years and it has paid off, his followers on this site often tell you...READ his books if you want to learn about him, not the news...

sorry for the off topic but his ignoring these people really makes me wonder about his authenticity and how much is has actually been groomed and set in place

Having a father from a foreign country that has had several wifes and several childern around the globe, it is understandable that Obama doesn't keep up with his poor relatives.

Sure, Gospodin Stalin, I am reasonably certain that the real DyaDya Dzho would say just that.

Get ready, he's going to quote the Preamble and claim that "subsidizing the needy" falls under the purview of promoting "the general Welfare" portion of the afore mentioned.

Sorry to steal your thunder, Joe.

We the progressive-minded citizens of the North American Province of the United Nations, in Order to obtain a far groovier chakra, establish Social Justice, get righteous with Mother Earth, insure domestic partnerships of any nature, provide for the common promotion of peace, free love and a total lack of responsibility, promote the creation of the Welfare State, and secure the some boss doobage for ourselves, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the North American Province of the United Nations.

Subsizing something creates more of it. So you acknowledge that you want more people in need? Typical socialist.

your claim was....

i asked a simple question if your assertion is correct.....it should be simple for you to prove that our founding governments collected funds and spread it around.....

Yet Manu only asked what the tax rates were for those years, not everything that happened. You made a claim about the founding of the country being based in "spreading the wealth around", but fail to answer Manu's question. No surprise really.

What ideology did you present? What facts of law did you present? What tenets of the Constitution did you present? What American ideology did you present? You presented nothing other than obscure dates with which no one can associate with the American Dream as it stands in 2008. Your reminiscence is at best shallow and serves only for some selfish idea that you and others might presently excuse for your diminished understanding of the very real, brave and entrepreneurial America.

WTF do you expect from ordinary citizens that fight so valiantly to preserve their own places in this American life and provide, even minimally as their occupations offer, for themselves and their families? You are one sick dude with little or no understanding of the complexities of common life in America in 2008.

Yep, you are indeed a dumbo.
