we stopped in Pearl during the war on our way home. vets believe the oil leaks are the ship bleeding for her dead. there is concern the rusted fuel bunkers may split open and cause a catastrophic oil spill in the harbor.

for days after the attack, rescuer's were un nerved by constant day and night banging and tapping sounds that could be heard all over the Harbor from men trapped in these wrecks. by the time Christmas rolled around it had all but ceased. so many held on a long time before dying.
