"Will some of the people I appoint stray off the right path? That is a fear that haunts me. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. We all have been guilty of errors in judgment.... But you can rest assured that I will do my very best to honor your trust in me. If I make a mistake, I'll tell you, and we'll try again."

--Gov. George Ryan in his Jan. 11, 1999, inaugural speech.

Apparently, Republican Gov. Ryan was just kidding.

Late in the 1990s, two young federal prosecutors in Chicago prepared a two-page memo that outlined allegations of corruption in the office of George Ryan, then the Illinois secretary of state. The prosecutors had evidence that unqualified truckers were bribing Ryan's employees to obtain driver's licenses. Just as bad, somebody on Ryan's staff had thwarted an internal investigation of these dangerous criminal acts.

No.

Republican corruption is not news.

In Illinois corruption from either party is not news, until they finally get caught. Yesterday was a great day, as was seeing Ryan do the perp walk.

What's wrong with Illinois?

Apparently, not so much.

In 2007, the publication Corporate Crime Reporter crunched Department of Justice statistics to rank the 35 most populous states of the nation by corruption. The top three? Louisiana, Mississippi and Kentucky – which can be better thought of as broadly representing the “moralistic” states. Illinois didn’t even break the top five, coming in sixth on the list.

So. There you have it. The most corrupt states are RepubliCON Red states.

Wrong, that would be based on 'getting caught', Illinois' history is long and deep with corruption, over 100 years.

I think I am beginning to understand the pattern....red states.....prosecutors find and prosecute the corrupt (who frequently are Democrats).....blue states....the prosecutors ARE the corrupt.....thus the red states have a higher percentage of PROSECUTIONS of the corrupt......

What nonsense!

More likely, the crimes in the red states are so bad, even red state prosecutors can't let them go.

Is there any way that DP can EVER get away from the tit-for-tat Republican scandal vs. Dem scandal thing? Most politicians are dishonest in some way. You can't trust them. Either party. Someone digs up a Dem scandal. Someone else digs up a GOP scandal. It's all worthless bullshit.

I think her point, stevie, was the tit for tat propensity of the conversations here.

It's a circle jerk, nothing more. I left elected politics after 21 years because of corruption that I saw there and to be honest I was intimidated to some point that I would somehow get caught up in the mess and I wanted no part of it. This was certainly not a partisan decision on my part as I witnessed some really sleazy shit coming from every side imaginable in about equal measure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That said, I also plead guilty of some of the tit for tat bullshit being promoted on this particular site. There are sites that would ban a poster for such activities and particularly so if there is little or no content relating to the credible conversation concerning the opening post.

Cutest thing, the op noted Ryan being a "R", even at this late hour on the 2nd day, few media outlets are leading with "D" for Blagojevich. Who sells spin? :laugh2:
