President Obama meets with Congressional leaders in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. From left are House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, House Minority Leader John Boehner and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.
The exchange arose as top House and Senate Republicans expressed concern to the president about the amount of spending in the package. They also raised red flags about a refundable tax credit that returns money to those who don’t pay income taxes, the sources said.
The Republicans stressed that they want to include more middle class tax cuts in the package, citing their proposal to cut the two lowest tax rates — 15 percent and 10 percent — to ten percent and five percent, rather than issue the refundable credit Obama wants.

What an odd way to write, I don't really have anything to add or ask about the story, but this line just stood out, meh.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.
One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.
"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."
That wasn't Obama's only jab at Republicans today.
While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House's Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.
"I won," he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that."

I thought you were against "unnamed source," Ms. Unicorn?
It's not anything that the Bushies didn't say in 2001 -- "the election is over, we won, get over it." Of course, it's always different when you are on the other side of the decision.

When was the last time the Republican party did listen to Rush? It is clear the pary has rejected all the advice he has given them, and the country got Pres Obama because of it
Pres Obama should be thanking the Republicans for NOT listening to people like Rush and Sean Hannity

What cracks me up is that if Bush or any Republican president said 'he was going to listen to other ideas' and then said, 'I won,' the hubris would have been made codified. The 'nuance' of "I listen", meaning, 'I'll listen, but don't expect to be taken seriously,' too would have been clarified by the press.
When Obama said it, 'It's just a fact.'

One of the reader's over at Instapundit pointed out that if Obama keeps this up, it could render any attempt at a fairness doctrine moot, as it would seem more like a Nixonian 'enemies list.' Could really be the case, Obama is not that savvy at national politics and now has more than a few issues before him, I can envision some basic mistakes like this one. In fact, in the past 3 days, he's managed to step into more than a few piles of doo doo.

We can never be united as long as Republicans exist and the first step to getting rid of them is reminding both them and the public at large that they have been rejected by the American People.
Rejected.
The People chose the Democrats to run the country. They saw the horrors wrought by Republicans and said resoundingly "No More!"

Pres Obama has backed off tax increase on the "righ"
No windfall profit tax on oil companies
No day one pullout of Iraq
No day on eclosing of Gitmo. He said it would be a "disappointment" if it was not closed by the end of his first term
No increase on the corparate, dividend, and capital gains tax
Now he admits we will have trilion dollar deficts for YEARS - when he said he would control spending

Actually about 800,000 showed up - and 1,000,000 ACORN voters made up the rest of the liberal media's count of the turnout
