I understand why people fall in love with California, truly a geographically diverse state and really nice people. With that said, to many of us there are frequent stories that just boggle the mind. First they are not refunding (http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/01/tax-refunds-now.html)taxpayers money, because well they NEED it. In any other context this is known as theft.

I wonder how they would react if next year people refused to make their state income tax payments. I realize these are done through payroll tax deductions, but it would serve the state right if people simply stopped having deductions i.e. increased their personal exemptions to an amount high enough to stop withholding and then simply refused to pay their taxes as the government has refused to make refunds.

Somehow, I don't think it would work, but it would be justice served.

PS: I've been out of California for quite some time. I am not certain, but I think state income taxes are withheld in the same way as federal income taxes are.
