Though a minor entry in Eastwood's body of work, Gran Torino is nevertheless a humorous, touching, and intriguing old-school parable.

I really want to see this. I've only recently been discovering Eastwood's classics, the Dirty Harrys and his westerns. Tonight, I watch Unforgiven for the first time.

Eastwood's performance in Bridges of Madison County was outstanding.

I'll keep that in mind, but it'll probably be pretty low on the list. ;)

Incidentally, Unforgiven is the best western I've ever seen.

I'm not. I have friends who are members of the Academy. It's one of the ones they send out for consideration.

No need to buy bootlegs anymore. A quick internet search shows it can easily be downloaded.

Resolution might actually even be better. I've seen a couple of those Academy screeners in the past, and they post all sorts of warning messages all over them that make it difficult to actually watch the film.

hjmick
02-19-2009, 05:43 PM
Yeah, the warnings are damn annoying. I don't often borrow the screeners, but it was offered and things have been slow in the movie department lately.

Also, I feel like I should apologize for anything bad I've said about the Academy, or will say in the future. It's not so much them that I have trouble with, it's the whole idea of the Oscars in general.

Gran Torino was a great movie. Recommended for every American, but not a family film as there is alot of bad language, especially racial slurs lol.

Ah, you've seen the entirety of them there, inasmuch as "he advocates sex with children and lots of other nasty stuff" was the sentiment he expressed. I'm not interested in dwelling on his lies, of course, which is why I'll be ignoring him in favor of the political discussions.

Disappointed! Not in Eastwood's performance, as usual he was great but the other actors were B-movie or lower quality.

Edit: I'm glad I didn't pay the full theater price.

I just saw the movie a few weeks ago. I liked it, it reminded of how hardcore some of the old timers were that I used to work with.

I forgot to note that I have seen very few of what most people would consider the best westerns! I know next to nothing about the genre, but I'm starting to appreciate it more.

There are not as many good cowboy actors as there use to be..Clint Eastwood was my favorite, and alot of people claim John Wayne to be the best.

Not sure if you've seen that movie Tombstone with Kurt Russel..That was pretty good..and he played a hell of a good cowboy in that.

It's almost a genre where if one wanted to get into..that one would have to enjoy movies 15 years,or older when produced.

Not to many actors now-a-days that are natural born cowboys...That Unforgivin was a dam good movie..have it in my collection..:)

I watched this movie last night for the first time. Someone has buggdd me to watch it fior a long time. I kinda thought Clint Eastwoods character was a crabby old man ! He seemed like a jerk and also used lots of racial slurs. Plus he didn't seem loving to his own sons. But I gotta admit when he saved the girl from the gangsters the first time she was haressed, as old as he is I thought mmm he's a sexy mo'fo he he. Then I felt real bad at the ending. Overall it was a good flick but not a favorite.:coffee:

It is the story of an aging man haunted by a violent past who has tried desperately to forget it.
