Well, I just got in from my first official TYL meeting, and I have to say, they're impressing me with how quickly they are coming together. The group generally seems to be of the same mind, and since I was there for the meeting where they set down the official by-laws and offices (The new president had no opposition, and is the one who really jumped on the ball to get the group rolling, so yeah, he's earned it.), I got to add my voice to the mix, and I found they were extremely open to any new suggestions, whether or not they particularly agreed with me.

The odd point is the place that they meet up at: Kelly's Tavern, and the Peninsula Libertarian Party meets at Sarah's Irish Pub. I'm not exactly certain why it is that they seem to prefer Irish bar settings, but they're trying to look for other venues currently as the group grows, and the bars are no longer able to really fit them anymore.

Overally, I'm liking the direction this group is taking, and I was wondering of our other libertarians here on the board if you're getting actively involved with your local LPs? If there isn't one, are you looking to maybe be able to start one up. I mean, I know our message is a good one, but if no one hears it, then it won't end up changing anything meaningfully.

We have a small but growing Libertarian contingency here in north Mississippi, DS'72. They're a generally very private bunch of folks and they tend to be primarily made up of disenfranchised ultra conservatives (their description, not mine). They're big on no government or taxes or niggers, if you get my drift?!?!?!?!??!???!?!

For my own set of reasons I wish them well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'cool one?!?!?!??!?????!??!

Learn the difference between Libertarians and racist assholes. Yes, pretty much every group out there has their people that they just hang their head, going "Oh god, they're talking again." Look to the mid-60s Dems, who actually opposed integration.

The group here kicked a guy out for being racist, so obviously, not all the same. Beware of any group calling themselves ultra- anything, it means they've stopped listening, and all choices are mapped out ahead of time.

Now, I wasn't aware you were Libertarian, PB. The idea of Libertarianism isn't anti-government, since we're based of the original vision of the Founders for the United States, and they set up the government. Anti-huge government, yes.

Our country was founded in a Libertarian theme. History influenced change.

The LP was founded in the early 70's, it has also evolved somewhat. Immigration for example.

A realistical Libertarian knows that we aren't living in 1783. We also know that a bit of 1783 influence is exactly what we need today in a country that increasingly finds itself on a freeway to socialism. The LP is an infant today compared to what it will be in 12-20 years. Yes, it will be comprised by many "ultras" who are fed up however as it reveals itself to more and more AMERICANS, it will be perceived for what it is.

There are many left sided Libertarians. More so than people think. Liberty is a precious thing. The ability to operate free from government intrusiveness is the desire of many.

I especially look forward to seeing the "other" peoples of the country filling in to our ranks over the next decade, which I am sure will happen. Ironically, I think seeing a president like Obama will help in this effort. He is a great advertisement for the Libertarian Party. As more and more African Americans, and other black people see that he is not the magic answer they thought he was, they may begin to realize that they too, are looking for another choice. Successful, hard working folks of these persuasions will get just as tired of their resources being tapped as others and search for a party that discourages, "spreading the wealth", by force or at the point of a government gun!

VOTE LIBERTARIAN for real change
