Trade deficit drops to $39.9B; lowest in 6 years

WASHINGTON — The U.S. trade deficit fell to the lowest level in nearly six years in December as the recession depressed demand for imports. The trade deficit in 2008 fell for a second straight year and economists expect an even bigger decline this year

so are recessions always bad? and doesn't this crimp obama's constant doom and gloom?

Trade deficits aren't necesarily bad. It just means that, as a country in the aggregate, we are importing goods and exporting cash. Makes sense for the world's leading consumer nation and the country with the world's reserve currency.
