Fed chief Bernanke: recession could end in '09

WASHINGTON – America's recession "probably" will end this year if the government succeeds in bolstering the banking system, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Sunday in a rare television interview.

In carefully hedged remarks in a taped interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," Bernanke seemed to express a bit more optimism that this could be done.

I saw that show and am not convinced that it'll be all over by the end of the year or even the following one. This is going to be a l...o....n....g one. Ugh!

I have no doubt the Recession will end this year.

What Im not sure about is whether it will end because of a recovery or because we have slid into a Depression.

:laugh2: Just had to chuckle over that last line. :laugh2: Unfortunately, we are damn near in a depression now. Sooner or later it'll end. But it ain't gonna be anytime soon.
