Barack Obama's Teleprompter and Glenn Beck's Idiotic Demagoguery

March 27, 2009 11:45 AM ET | Robert Schlesinger | Permanent Link | Print
By Robert Schlesinger, Thomas Jefferson Street blog

Broadcast nutter Glenn Beck is the latest right-winger to pick up the Obama/Teleprompter meme. He does so with typical, ahem, gusto, calling the president a "Manchurian candidate."

Give Beck credit for this: At least he has distilled this charge to its inane core.

Let's be clear, again (and again): A teleprompter is a tool without any magical properties. The main difference between using a teleprompter and having a speech typed on paper in front of you is that teleprompters are reportedly harder to use.

A president (or any politician, or for that matter, television commentator) using a teleprompter signifies ... that his remarks have been prepared ahead of time.

So where exactly is the problem?

always been my problem with so-called leaders...

if you can't speak from the heart, and all you have are prewritten words, what is the point? that you are good looking...talk smooth?

i don't mind a cheat sheet....for that just reminds you of your overall speech. but this word for word teleprompter stuff....who is really writing this?

we know for sure it is not the president.

The problem is that when using the teleprompter Obama's speeches are flawless, no gaffes, no mistakes, no unnecessary interjections, whereas when the teleprompter is not used, the speeches are filled with unnecessary interjections, mistakes and gaffes.

In other words, when other's write his material he is a great reader. When he has to make it up on his own, well, he's lacking.

As haughty as possible, while stammering.

And not being good at writing speeches is why many people have had others do it for them. Some people are meant to write the speeches while others are great at giving them.

Never mind that your, and your fellow travelers on the right, shit is so weak that you have to make up crap to throw at Obama to see if it sticks.

Few, if any, public speakers in large venues fail to use teleprompters. It's a modern fact of life. And you conveniently forget that every word Bush ever read or, more appropriately, stumbled through off a teleprompter was written for him. Obama writes his own material.

Even more ridiculous is the MSM's picking up of this long debunked BS story first promulgated by the likes of FOX Noise and Politico to Townhall and the Drudge Report during the presidential campaign. As usual, the MSM is behind the curve. It would seem that space aliens have taken over the MSM with the aim of turning people's brains to mush so they can spread them on toast like Cheez-Whiz. They abandoned the plan however when they found a plentiful and ready to eat source between the ears of the GOP leadership, its apologists and their slavish followers. Thank you for saving the rest of the human race.:laugh2:

Bully, what's up with this post? Your, and your fellow travelers...

Few, if any, public speakers in large venues fail to use teleprompters. It's a modern fact of life. Speeches? I'll give you. Pressers? Q & A with supporters? Not so much so.

Obama writes his own material. Not only not so, proven so with inauguration and Chicago victory speech. Both were touted as going to be written by him, then admitted not so. Seriously, you are going over the top.

Bully, you and I both know he had that big ass tv monitor acting as a prompter and yes, he missed many a beat. He raced through the intro and made many mistakes throughout. You are becoming too defensive here.

Didn't miss a beat, didn't say damn thing either except whine about the bad hand he was dealt, rambled on and on and still didn't answer the question and then showed his true colors when someone had the balls to ask him a real question about when he actually found about something..But hey, he didn't miss a beat..

good thing he has his Obamabots to stick up for him, but even they are becoming less every day it seems..

You kids keep on graspin' at straws. Obama isn't the first POTUS to use prepared remarks nor even the first to use a teleprompter. Nor will he be the last. So keep yourselves occupied with the inconsequential distractions the right wing noise machine keeps throwing your way. It's fun to watch.
