Fox isn't ridiculing American workers, thats a ridiculous take on this.

Its strictly on a volunteer basis for the people who participate and they get their 15 minutes of fame.

This is right up your alley, you should be singing the praises of this show. The little guy gets to decide who stays and who goes instead of the boss.
