I have been on vacation, so this post is a couple of days late, but I have NEVER heard of a president not taking an opportunity to express concern/prayers/thoughts to the family in a situation like this. Most presidents would issue a statement to the press immediately to let America know 1) they care and 2) they're going to do something about it.

During the race, he seemed like a puppet to me, only giving the scripted answers he was told to, so I shouldn't be surprised by this, but I am. Suprised and disgusted. What kind of a human being makes housing a higher priority than a human life.

I don't know that one can read 'unconcern' into it, it struck a bad note though. The White House a bit ago released their first statement to the effect they are glad he's safe, that the Armed Services and all other agencies of the US involved should be proud of their heroic services.

I'm not saying that he should have necessarily commented during the press conference referenced in the link, it was about housing, but to say nothing for 5 days? To wait until he is safe and back in our custody before commenting? To me, that shows a complete lack of concern. If he felt concern, he should've taken two minutes in the past five days to make a statement to the press.

As I mentioned, as much as I can recall, a president has ALWAYS issued a statement expressing concern following a situation like this...hostages, trapped miners, etc. I think his "fans" should be seriously disappointed in him.

Glenn Beck says that Obama's policy of using the SEALS to free hostages is Socialism.

Go off topic much?

Perhaps the lack of concern was really a firm knowledge that the hostage would be rescued. Or maybe it is that the other presidents who have said such hollow words as "I can understand your pain", really have no clue. I find it refreshing that one president did not go fishing for compliments on his demeanor.

Perhaps because Obama knew his supporters would find a way to give him credit if the Capt was saved - and provide him cover if the Capt was killed

You are helping me prove my point. Thank you. What did Obama do or say over the last several days that made the release possible?

The lack of a statement addressing his concern for Captain Phillips' well being means nothing. I have no doubt that the President was worried and working with his advisers in an effort to rescue Phillips unharmed.

AA, I respect you and your opinion, but I must say that this thread reminds me of all those threads we saw accusing Bush of not caring about the deaths of military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan or the failures surrounding Katrina. Remember those? Always started by Dems suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome? I find it difficult to believe, now as well as then, that any President lacks concern or empathy for a person or people whose lives and well being are threatened.

I guess what I'm saying is, let's be better than that. There are bigger issues to bust Obama's balls over. Besides, none of can know what is in the mans heart.

As I said, it hit the wrong note. Of course he may have feared a less than satisfactory outcome and didn't want to be open to any criticism.

I disagree. I think his lack of a statement has to do with political positioning. Regardless, when asked about it during the press conference he simply could have said "my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time". The fact that he wouldn't answer, says to me, that my original opinion of him stands true. He says nothing that's not scripted for him.

I don't remember them because I wasn't on this forum yet. Again, I disagree with the comparison. Whether you believe him or not, Bush made statements regarding his concern. Obama said nothing until after the situation was resolved.

I'm sorry you think I'm being petty. I think discussing Michelle's clothing or her looks is petty. I think busting his balls over giving the queen an ipod is petty. I think ignoring (because that's what he did publicly) an American hostage is a major issue and reflects on his leadership.

But the good thing is, it's still America and we both have the right to disagree.

Or how about several of the ospry swing wing VTOL crashing and killing all aboard. Then Bush saying they were safe and ordering a billion dollars worth.

No, you said he was on the phone to the ship, where he belonged. You were the one with the idiotic premise. Here's an idea, why not start an angry men's board, MD can probably help you all out financially...

Obama should have issued a short statement expressing concern and America's intention to conclude the matter at once. NOW he needs to tell us what we are doing to see this does not happen again. He needs to be precise and articulate the points precisely. I wanna know frankly, if you libs think he did ok...fine. I'm with AA on this one!

Come on you Obama supporters admit the truth, he failed to comment on the hostage situation because the teleprompter had nothing on it about the situation, that is why he wanted to stay focused on the housing topic that he was scheduled to talk about. He is nothing more than an amiable dunce that is well scripted by his handlers, good thing that Joe is his VP and Rahm his COS or else Obama would really look stupid.

Perhaps because Obama knew his supporters would find a way to give him credit if the Capt was saved - and provide him cover if the Capt was killedAnd of course the converse is true. Military scored a nice win, but the far right can be counted upon to bitch and complain about what Obama didn't do. :laugh2: If he did say something, you'd be all over him for using such a tragic situation for political gain.

The US Navy calls President and Commander In Chief Barack Hussein Obama "Dead Eye Dick" and I don't think that is in any way a reference to the narcissistic one?!?!?!?!??!??!?!?!?!???!?!?!
