It doesnt mean a LOT - however, i've made 'hire lists' in three places - Germany, San Antonio, and Huntsville. I'm a lock (in my opinion) to match quals and experience with those in Germany and SA - Huntsville would be a little stretch.
Glad we didn't BUY a home yet, down here. :)

Personally I say go to Texas, it has the greatest potential to be the last free state in America.

San Antonio is a great city, beautiful, hilly, low humidity, close to Big Bend and the Hill Country, great Tex-Mex food, big without feeling big, a favorite retirement spot for former military people.......... Houston is only a couple hundred miles away and Austin is within an hour. Move to Texas, it's really big.:laugh2:

Was just looking at homes in SA area...HOLY CRAP....seriously - it's like...F'ing socialism...fascism?
On a $275k home, Property tax was nearly SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS per year...
I honestly can't see how ppl put up with that sort of money-stealing.
REALLY hurts to think a place with 7? Million people has to steal that much of it's residents' income. :( How do ppl do it on a 'normal' wage?

Check out the IRS seizure auctions. I saw some pretty good prices on homes in San Antonio listed a few times.

No state income tax.

In WA, no state income tax, our tax was 2700/year. :-/
Nearly 7000 in property tax means we can afford about 50-100k less in house, as it adds 500-600/month in our payment.
That kinda tax is honestly SHOCKING. I mean, moving there would mean I'd need to make 10K a year more, just to see a couple-hundred dollar a month raise. Painful. :(
It's enough to absolutely scratch SA off my list of potential living areas. Even if I got a 10K raise to go there, just knowing i'm giving that money - erp - the govt is STEALING that money and offering no measurable return is enough where I think I'd have a hard time sleeping....like I am right now...in alabama. :(

Actually....
On 250k, our tax would be about 800/year. Homeowner's insurance, though, is about triple what we paid in WA.

As one of the top three, New Hampshire is pretty good right now.
But beware; people from Taxachussetts are moving in at a rapid rate. They will most likely bring their tax and spend godless Socialist tendencies with them

Plus their real estate taxes are very high- punitively so unless you live in a shack.
