Is there any liberal out there who actually belives the crap Pelosi is spreading?

The best we can hope for is that she loses the Speaker position. This idiocy has only made her look better to her moonbat constituents.

Pelosi: Bush's CIA misled me on waterboarding

Critics are calling for her scalp. Republicans are insisting that she be the first casualty of the controversy over torture.

And this morning, Karl Rove, the man responsible for getting George W. Bush elected to the White House, called her "an accomplice to torture."

So today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to the podium to defend herself against a rising tide of criticism that she looked the other way when, as the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, she was briefed on the Bush administration's "enhanced interrogation" of terrorist suspects.

In a statement to reporters, she said that she was only briefed once by officials from Bush's CIA -- in September of 2002 -- and "the only mention of waterboarding was that it was not being deployed."

Now it turns out that waterboarding was being used, and Pelosi, like others in Congress, is urging a truth commission on torture to ferret out the details.

"They gave me inaccurate and incomplete information," she said, adding the CIA told they had legal opinions approving waterboarding but had not yet employed the tactic when in fact they had.

"This was the same time the Bush administration was misleading the American people about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq," she said. "They were misinforming me. At every step of the way, the [Bush] administration was misleading Congress."

As for her critics, she called the firestorm over her role "a diversionary tactic to take the spotlight off those who conceived and implemented this policy." She did not name names, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been very vocal in defending the administration's decisions over torture.

But House Minority Leader John Boehner continued the drumbeat after Pelosi's remarks, saying, "It's hard to imagine anyone would mislead member of Congress." He also said Pelosi has changed her stories several times. "Let's find out who knew what and when," he said.

Could it be folks Ms Pelosi was for waterboarding before she was against it?

Or did she think the CIA agents were talking about surfing? After all that is the only kind of water board they have in San Francisco

"my job was to change the majority in congress"

Pelosi confirmed that her self interests in politics are more important than performing her representative duties.

Pelosi’s news conference today was like watching my car that got its head stuck in a box

She was twisting and pulling in a blind panic trying to get herself out of this mess she’s got herelf into because her own political motives.

How many times has her story changed due to evidence popping up, only to have still more evidence come to light and contradict her newly revised accounts?

Can we count of the AG Eric Holder to make sure if Pelosi has committted any crime she will be held accoutable?

Do not hold your breath on that one

Sems Nancy says she wants the briefings to be released

A pretty serious charge.

I have to wonder now, next time the majority Democrats (including the one in the White House) need intelligence data on whatever enemies are attacking or planning to attack us..... how willing will the CIA be provide facts and informed guesses (which is their main job) on what they have found out? Will they continue to do the most professional job possible, when they know that the people they are helping, will turn on them and accuse them of every crime and malfeasance under the sun for their trouble?

Pelosi seems to be fouling her own nest quite a lot nowadays, as she tries to writhe away from the revelations that she was briefed explicitly on waterboarding that had been done and was currently being done. She had raised no objections at all despite her duty to provide oversight, and has now changed her story several times as each new revelation comes out.

It is clear that she did not consider waterboarding to be the abhorrent thing she now claims, having withheld all objections when it was her turn to speak up. But when she and her fellow congressional Democrats later found they could use the issue to destroy President Bush, it suddenly became "torture" and "something no civilized nation should do".

She and they seem far more interested in destroying their political opponents, than in doing the work Congress is supposed to do to protect our nation.

And these are the people who insist they should be the ones running our country and defending it against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Republicans Dispute Pelosi's Claim That She Couldn't Stop Interrogation Techniques

Republicans say House Speaker Nancy Pelosi could have done a number of things to protest the CIA's program of enhanced interrogation techniques used on terrorism suspects.

FOXNews.com
Thursday, May 14, 2009

Under strong attack from Republicans, Pelosi accused the CIA and Bush Administration of misleading her about waterboarding detainees in the war on terror and sharply rebutted claims she was complicit in the method's use. (AP)

Republicans said they were stunned Thursday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that she was powerless as minority leader to intervene in the CIA's "enhanced interrogation techniques" used on terrorism suspects.

Earlier in the day, Pelosi told reporters that the CIA misled Congress on its activities, but she protested that she knew that any complaints by her about the use of waterboarding and other harsh tactics would fall on deaf ears.

Pelosi said in her weekly news conference that she supported a letter drafted in February 2003 by Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif. -- the new ranking Democrat on the House intelligence panel who attended a briefing that month that included discussions on waterboarding -- and sent to the Bush administration, raising concerns over the program.

Harman was the "appropriate person to register a protest," Pelosi said

"But no letter or anything else is going to stop them from doing what they're going to do," she added.

Not so, said Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. "As a member of the Gang of Four, if the CIA proposes to do something that we think is wrong, we can do something about it. We've done something about," he said.

The so-called "Gang of Four" refers to the four members of Congress who serve in the chairman and vice chairman spots on the Senate and House Intelligence Committees. In 2002, that group included Sens. Bob Graham, D-Fla., and Richard Shelby, R-Ala., and Reps. Porter Goss, R-Fla, and Pelosi, D-Calif.

Bond said that as minority leader, Pelosi could have used a number of legislative tools to block the program, including using the Constitution's Speech and Debate clause, which protects lawmakers who wish to speak on the House floor on sensitive issues. She could also have insisted that other members be briefed on interrogation techniques; moved to cut CIA funds; insisted Congress go into closed session, like during Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and Patriot Act revisions; or sought revisions to the National Security Act to change congressional notification requirements.

"So there's no excuse to say, 'I was powerless,'" Bond said.

So far the libs here have avoided this thread, and the NY Times is avoiding the saga of San Fran Nan

Times Puts Pot Pies on Front Page, Pelosi On A20

The sitting Speaker of the House of Representatives has accused the CIA of lying to Congress. She is ensnared in a web of conflicting accounts. Her very hold on power could be under a cloud. Meh. Guess we can find some room on A20. But pot pies need to be heated to 165 degrees to be safe? Stop the presses and put it on the front page!

Such is the news judgment of the New York Times. The Morning Joe crowd had a field day with Gray Lady and Pelosi’s travails during the show’s opening half-hour today, Joe Scarborough having great fun pretending to assume that Pelosi’s pathetic presser would be on the Times’ front page one. Willie Geist eventually discovered the story on A20.
On a more serious note, Scarborough observed that “to be really truthful about this: everybody knows she’s lying.” Mark Halperin of Time was equally dismissive: “the position she took yesterday that caused the most people to laugh was when she said ‘after I realized this was a problem, all I could do was fight for Democratic control of Congress.’” Halperin also underlined the Times’ double-standard, remarking facetiously: “they’re using the template for Gingrich. Just what they would do if Gingrich [had been caught in a similar mess].”

When people including fellow Democrats are laughing at Pelosi, when everyone knows she’s not telling the truth, when the Speaker accuses a key player in the war against terrorism of lying, that is huge news–unless of course you’re a liberal paper more interested in preserving Dem power than in reporting the news.

The very best scenarios for Pelosi is that.

1) She was to lazy to attend the briefing and sent an aide who was incompetent, in which case reflects badly on her for her decision making as to who she has around her and not taking security briefings seriously.

2) She was so busy making her travel plans and nagging the Air Force for a ride that she wasn't paying attention to the security briefings.

3) She actually heard the briefings and she is lying political hack set on destroying America from within.

Even Leon Ponetta said she heard the briefings at some point.

Personally I think its number 3. She is lying political hack bent on destroying America.

Pelosi will not be held accoutable for her lies, she will not be called as a witness during the Congressional hearings, and the Dem voters will give her a pass

Soon there will be a collective shoulder shrug among the Democrats and the MSM.

Then it will be history.

Like Charlie Rangel's investigation that Pelosi promised would begin at the start of the new year.

(note - it will be history, but not in history books. Neither will Rangel's tax "avoision.")

The Dems have absolutely no shame at this time. They said that they would investigate several of their members, and they haven't moved on one of them. The most ethical Congress in the history of America is being run by the biggest bunch of thieves, liars and reprobates that we have ever seen

To people like Joe, he wants us to believe Pelosi, and believe the CIA now gives briefings on things they are NOT doing

With Dems running things in DC now, controversy and scandal will not ruin Pelosi and the Dems, no more than perjury and oval office sodomy did.

The only thing that ruins Democrats is acting slightly unlike a Democrat.

Liz Cheney took the libs at MSNBC to school on "torture". It was something to see them squirm under the pressure of facts.

At MSNBC, they are not use to having people hit them with those pesky facts getting in the way of their SNC and Obama talking points
