I can see a convoy of taxpayers leaving MA, well at least the sensible ones.

I thought the poor wouldn't have to pay taxes or have their taxes increased.
Why with all the billions of dollars pouring into the states from the federal level, I'd think they'd be cutting taxes

Senate OKs 25% sales tax increase

The state Senate approved a 25 percent sales tax hike last night and removed the exemption on booze, bringing recession-ravaged Bay State residents one step closer to paying more at the cash register.

Senators also passed a municipal package that would let cities and towns boost taxes on meals and lodging despite their concerns that taxpayers might seek payback - in the voting booth.

“We were very sensitive to that and tried to look at the least harmful place to go,” said Senate President Therese Murray, who argued the sales tax - boosted from 5 percent to 6.25 percent - has exemptions on necessities such as food and clothing.

She said she staved off an onslaught of calls from many members to hike the income and gas taxes in an effort to restore state services

Once they tax all the poor people out of MA then the rich like the Kerry's and Kennedy's will have it all to themselves

Again....so? Since when do K & K ever really spend money in MA? They might find it hard once everyone leaves to run their state. Plus, last time I checked there are still 49 other states to live in. Oh and also Puerto Rico....

Wouldn't it be easier to just have the government collect your check and then in return they provide you with some basic clothes, basic housing, and a bicycle?

You adjust by not having as much money to spend, business will have fewer sales, the economy slows, and the government will take in less tax revenue

When taxes go up economic activity decreases. It is a proven fact

Of fourse it never occures to the government to reduce spending. Government expects us to go without never the other way around

you'd think so but not really. still ok in Indiana. you might be a little bit more tight-fisted at first but then.....you adjust. Not saying lay down and take it, but it's an increase from 5% to 6.25%, if they don't like it then they can leave the state and find one that beter suits their taxation ideals. but imho, they will be state hoping for awhile cuz most are probably going ot raise taxes in some way or another. I remember here when there was complaining about incrasing from five to six and then from six to seven and it was all before our "economic crisis". things slowed down for a bit and then normal life resumed, oh well.

Seven states choose to impose no income tax. These states are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

They seem to be doing OK unless they get overwhelmed by the leftists out of California and other places the left has screwed up - then try and do the same in the states they move to

Its like the old saying; The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result each time. For people who claim to be so smart, they sure are idiots.

Keep to the subject....sales tax..not income tax hot shot.

and the states that don't collect sales tax are Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon. so look. NH is just a hop and a skip over from MA. still within visiting distance if any family stays there.

so then they can move to those states since it gets to hard.

and they should probably avoid Tennessee, Louisiana, and Washington since they are the highest by two to five percent.

It is all part of the subject. Incomes taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, SS taxes, ect

Look at the states with the highest taxes - CA, NY, and NJ. Gievn the amount of money they take from their residents they should not have any problems

Yet they are demanding more!

People are fleeing from those states, but they should not have to if the government reigns in their insane spending. CA is supporting a large portion of the population of Mexico yet they insult the folks when they vote not to pay more in taxes
