I was at another board and they mentioned how we should put away partisan politics to do whats best for the country.

I was just wondering, why do you think people are partisan? I tend to think its because they really believe their positions are the best for the country.

The most vocal partisans seem more intent on arguing, rather than in discussing or debating the topics. They choose to argue from one extreme or the other in an effort to cloak their efforts with a veneer of righteousness or morality.

Why are people partisan?

At it's root partisanship is manufactured by politics.

In our country it is the product of a two party system that purposely divides us so that the two parties can maintain a monopoly on power.

People generally do not have a clue about the real world and their opinions are mostly fed to them via media and propaganda organs.

We get all of our info about the world "provided to us" by people with vested interests in "manufacuring consent".

And it works. Whether the product is toothpaste or the neocon agenda the methods are the same and they are highly developed.

I kinda agree with loose on this. But I think it goes a bit further. The media is also to blame. In a nutshell, politics feeds on the publicity of the media, and the media promotes itself via sensational stories from the political factories.

Well said, the media is a propaganda organ for political parties and business and the dominant cultural paradigm.

In fact it is the largest one by far.

The truth hurts, Bush is candidly aware of his role in promoting partisanship.

In fact that is the only area in which the Bush/neocons excell. They politicize everything.

Another view on that quote is that GWB recognized that in order to penetrate the media veil of sensationalism, he'd have to hammer home his message. It's all perspective I guess.

I think both P'sOV are true.

Faux news has a declared policy of presenting the dem POV and the GOP POV, altho no equally. They call it "fair and balanced".

But what Faux does is a huge departure from journalism. Faux ONLY presents the two partisan perspectives.

Journalists would report an objective POV which would radically depart from both parties talking points.

Every other player takes on a different role and appearance depending on where you stand on the board.

One side see's team blue as evil, one see's team red as evil.

All about place on the board.

Anybody who doesn't choose a team has zero political power.

I think many people see their political party's view as closest to their own, while the other party's views are dangerous and not to be allowed. Thus, people become partisans.

Unfortunately, political parties and politicians have to get less-educated people to vote for them, so their talking points and campaigns are dumbed down to the point that they never say or do anything worthwhile.

Your line of work as a jihad propagandist. Your right, keep telling the lie long enough and you start to get people to believe it, even yourself.

Actually, I have no problem with being labeled a partisan. Im a conservative because I believe in what conservatives stand for: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness through limited government.

It just be nice if the conservative politicians would follow their standards.

Partisanship would be fun if there were more than two viable parties and if they actually represented different viewpoints. Now we have two parties who are similar on about 85% of subjects and the people are whipped into a partisan frenzy because of the commercialism of politics. It's big business but basically about as stupid as the ads asking you to choose between Bud Light and Miller Lite. The Dems and GOP are the light beers of politics. I want to be able to choose between whisky and cognac. Both parties are weak.
