WASHINGTON – A leading GOP negotiator on health care struck a further blow to fading chances of a bipartisan compromise by saying Democratic proposals would restrict medical choices and make the country's "finances sicker without saving you money."

The criticism from Sen. Michael Enzi, R-Wyo., echoed that of many opponents of the Democratic plans under consideration in Congress. But Enzi's judgment was especially noteworthy because he is one of only three Republicans who have been willing to consider a bipartisan bill in the Senate.

The Democrats desperately need to enact SOMETHING about govt-controlled Health Care.

Anything.

It's the brass ring. The ultimate target. And if they can establish ANY precedent for the govt starting to put a Universal Health Care plan into place, it will be the first step in a long series.

Later they will fill in the missing parts. Pass a few more small things next year, a few more the following year, a few restrictions on what your doctor can perscribe a year later, etc. So it doesn't matter what parts they give up now, as long as they pass SOMETHING.

If they can get govt in charge of paying for even a little bit of our ordinary health care, they have won. Because then they can start making plans like, "Well, let's see, smoking increases the cost of health care, both for the smoker and for the people around him. So we should start restricting people's smoking since it's our JOB to save money on Health Care." And later, "Well, activities like skiing are hard on people health and can increase their health care cost, so we'll have to start regulatinng dangerous activites too, to save money." And etc. etc.

All they need is that first start, and they'll be able to put massive regulations and restrictions of everything we do, overf the next years.

So yes, DO ram sommething through, as James' bot says.

ANYTHING.

The Democrats are depending on it.
