They Key word is "essentially" without know what Obama said this word can mean an aweful lot, making discussion of teh subject silly until we get the quote from Obama which "essentially" declared this.

I think that they use the word 'essentially' becasue he said it. But he also said that we are not a "jewish nation" or a "muslim nation". It might have been that he was talking to a Muslim nation at the time and so people see that as he is trying to distance himself from it in their eyes. who knows.
