Libs have bankrupted the state of CA, taxed their citizens to the point where people are fleeing the state, and the Dems just dug the hole deeper

The Nanny state left will never stop trying to control as many aspects of your life as they think of

Calif. requires TVs to be more energy efficient
By SAMANTHA YOUNG, Associated Press Writer - Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:06PM EST

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Power-hungry TVs will be banned from store shelves in California after state regulators Wednesday adopted a first-in-the-nation mandate to reduce electricity demand.

On a unanimous vote, the California Energy Commission required all new televisions up to 58 inches to be more energy efficient, beginning in 2011. The requirement will be tougher in 2013, with only a quarter of all TVs currently on the market meeting that standard.

The commission estimates that TVs account for about 10 percent of a home's electricity use. The concern is that the energy draw will rise by as much as 8 percent a year as consumers buy larger televisions, add more to their homes and watch them longer.

Commissioners say energy efficiency standards are the cheapest and easiest way to save electricity.

"We have every confidence this industry will be able to meet the rule and then some," Energy Commissioner Julia Levin said. "It will save consumers money, it will help protect public health, and it will spark innovation."

TVs larger than 58 inches, which account for no more than 3 percent of the market, would not be covered by the rule, a concession to independent retailers that sell high-end home-theater TVs. The commission is expected to regulate them in the future.

Environmental groups supported the tougher standards and hoped they will prompt manufacturers to make new energy-efficient models for the rest of the nation. They said the rules would cut California's power bill by $1 billion a year, avoiding the need to build a 500-megawatt power plant.

I see the conspiracy now. CA's biggest industry (aside from porn) is the movie business. What is the movie industry's biggest threat? Home Theater systems. They allow people to avoid expensive and annoying theaters to watch movies with the same quality, in some cases better, at home. So the Big Movie lobby has got the CA government to ban big screens. :roflmao:

In all reality, lets see those retail numbers for the holiday season without bigscreen sales. Idiots.

Libs never learn from their mistakes

They want to force us to buy cars we don't want. Force us to buy light bulbs we don't want. Force us to buy TVs that we don't want.

All under the banner of enviromentalism, and saving Mother Earth

What is it is all about is increased power and control

Which is the motives behind Obamcare, and Cap and Trade

The wierd part of this insane liberal do gooder law is that stes over 58" - you know, the ones that use the most power - are exempt from this law.

Reminds of Uncle Al Gore using 12x the power of the average home while lecturing people on how they must conserve energy

Actually it's a result of the fact that the govt is restricting the amount of power that can be generated and transmitted to homes, factories, etc. Remember the blackouts some few years ago?

(One of the funniest moments during the recall election of then-Gov Gray Davis, was when he stepped up to an open mike and announced, "Remember, I kept the lights on in this state!" ...right after the latest series of blackouts.)

Loony legislators have made laws restricting what "impacts" you can have on the air, water, etc., even buying into the fake "carbon footprint" nonsense. Enviro-whackos have successfully sued under those laws, delaying and cancelling many new power plants, transmission lines, etc. As a result, CA can't generate enough power to support its population base. Restrictions like this no-plasma-TVs thing are the inevitable result.

If you think the situation is bad now, wait till everybody drives their electric car to work and plugs it in at 8AM, all at the same time, some 5 million strong, in the next ten years or whenever that gets mandated by those same loony legislators.

P.S. RSR, OwlGore used 20x as much power, not 12x.

We need only look at CA to see the model for what America will look like 10 years from now with all the government intervention that is taking place right now. If a state like California, all be it large but not nearly the size of the US as a whole, can not handle these government insurrections, then what chance does the country have to survive?

Considering the mess CA is in, God help the rest of us. As they say, poop runs down hill and it's comin' our way....

Oh but don't you see, in this wonderful world of Liberal Land you do not need to build new power plants to generate more power, no, it just magically appears out of nowhere when you really, really need it.

It never occurs to them that the reason they have more power is that most of the folks are out, but you forget the liberal elite live in their ivory towers where the sun always shines, the world is always ideal, and the rest of the people are something they forget about once the door closes.

California is broke because it cannot generate enough money to pay its bills. Imagine that, you can't raise taxes for the people would revolt and the first people out of jobs will be the legislators. But God forbid that California refuse to pay for illegal immigrant health care, or schooling, or provide aid to dependent children.

It is time for the Government to wake up and start acting like either everyday people, paying for the program that are needed with the money they have, and forgetting about the dream programs that they want.

Or they need to act like a business and design a product or service that people are willing to pay for. Either way, it is time to send a real clear message!!!

If the Alaskan legislature acted like the California legislature, there would be no hanging in effigy, there would be real hangings.

How about a cash for clunker program for TV's?

Trade in your old TV for solar powered radio that only gets conservative programs like Rush, Sean, and Glenn Beck

Has anyone else ever noticed that the liberal controlled blue democrat states have higher taxes and are constantly seeking more and more control over the lives, personal rights and decisions of it's residents?

I wonder how far their power over the people and we know what's best for you attitudes will take them and if they will ever reach a point where they will be satisfied with the amount of control they have?

Control freaks are never happy. They want TOTAL control. The things they can't control, drive them nuts.

I'm not defending the legislation, but a plasma TV will use about 3 times the energy as the same sized LCD.

true. but Plasma's are twice the cost and super expensive to repair. many manufacture's stopped making them. OLED is the next generation coming up to replace it all.

It's only through faith in God i Keep from losing my mind over how humans destroy themselves time and again. California reminds me of the Israeli people after Moses guided them from slavery. Their hardships were caused by their desire to RETURN to slavery (to idols, their fickle, short sided desires, etc). California - the farther it wanders from Conservative roots, the worse of it'll get until the state is no more. But....sometimes it takes things like that for people to learn - at least for awhile.

Yeah, this is true. It sure has wandered off the trail and straight into liberalism.....It seems CA becomes more and more liberal with each day. Doing what you damn well please, and living a lifestyle of loose morals and decadence, will only carry ya so far, and then, boom, it all falls apart at some point.....but, as you said, sometimes it takes things like that to happen before people wake up and learn.......
