THE grandad of university mass killer Cho Seung-Hui said last night: "Son of a bitch. He deserved to die.

"It's better not to have such a child in the family." And he dismissed Cho - diagnosed with autism as an eight-year-old - as "a trouble-causer who has destroyed his mother's life". Kim Hyang-Sik, 81, spoke at his home in South Korea after seeing the video Cho made of himself holding a gun to his head.

Student Cho, 23, shot dead 32 at Virginia Tech University before killing himself.

The hell? This whole family's screwed up. I don't care what he did, you're supposed to be sad when your grandson dies. I might understand a teary, "Well, I'm sad, but I think the world really is better off without him," but DAMN! That's cold.

Looks to me even the family realized how dangerous he is. I wonder what they did to try to help him. Sounds like nothing.

Oriental people do not always see things the way our society has taught us too. This guy sounds like he has that old-school Japanese/Koren mentality that a male child who disgraces the family no longer exists in the eyes of the patron.

Why?

Even the mothers of serial killers love their children enough to mourn their deaths. Like I said, I can see how a parent would, in some way, be glad their child is dead, because he was a threat to others, but the way that dad put it was one of no remorse, regret, or sorrow.

Dang. We should be happy they aren't trying to sue VTech for not helping their poor child with his afflictions. An Amercian family might.

I don't think they'd get far with it... nor would they want to open themselves up to the countersuits for wrongful death.

Again, your opinion reflects American western society/culture and not Eastern.

Asians don't have souls hence the coldblooded murder and the blunt dissing of a blood relative, this is proof.

I won't gamble at a casino table with an Asian dealer or Asian players, I believe i'm in the presence of something dark, i'm serious on this.

Interesting perspective. You'd never make it in the Marines ... we spend half our careers in the Far East.

I've always found Japanese culture rather fascinating. I don't think it has much ot do with not having a soul if your culture believes the family's purpose is to serve the master, and if you bring shame or dishonor on the master he can refuse to acknowledge your existence.

I don't know about the patriarchial thing but their demeanor, their general presence is creepy, not a whole lot of emotion, too matter of fact.

Stoicism is part of their culture. They cn sure laugh their asses off when they get the gai-jin that lives upstairs drunk as Hell on Saki!:laugh2:

Also, they have a "face" they wear in front of you, round eyes. If you get to know them and treat them with respect and treat their culture with respect, the mask comes off.

I had a choice. I could go to Okinawa on 1 year unaccompanied tours and be miserable sitting on base, or I could venture forth. I hate being cramped indoors.
