This goes along with 2007 charges that the Bushies were covering up the number of suicides among veterans. Along with poor mental health care that continues for vets.

He noted that of the 30,000 suicides each year in America, about 20 percent are committed by veterans.

The percentage rate will be higher because there is a higher percentage of vets in the general population due to fighting wars for the last decade, which would, of course, raise the percentage drastically over prior years.

Have to wonder what percentage the suicide rate is for US males in that age category is in general? I can't find it right now, but I wonder how the vets stack up?

Well, before the wars started this was the world average:

Suicide death rates (per 100,000 of population) among 15 to 24 year-olds, various countries, latest available data, 1991 to 1993

American stats were: 21.9/100,000

On another note I wonder what the murder rate was among the same age group for the same period of time as the CBS report.

Seriously, haven't a clue. Do know that the current screed is that murders and violent crime are down across the board, in spite of poverty rising. So, does poverty cause crime? Appears not.
